Accrediting body will be joined by leading employers to reveal best practice guidance on lift truck training, along with some important dos and don’ts.

The Association of Industrial Truck Trainers is providing much-needed clarification and essential training advice as part of its upcoming online conference on Tuesday 3rd August.

Prompted by misunderstandings and misinformation within the industry, AITT will present alongside several key organisations to explain why accredited training, delivered in line with HSE guidelines, is so important in terms of safety and productivity.

Key topics include:

•How to implement and maintain effective training for operators

•Truck categories and required training

•The impact of an accident and what happens when the HSE investigates your business

•The importance of a standardised and structured training regime

Recruitment and new starters

Adam Smith, Managing Director of AITT explains: “Historically, operator certificates for workplace transport have rarely been properly verified, either because recruitment agencies don’t understand them, or employers don’t know what to look for.

“Our conference will provide practical tips and guidance that audiences can use to ensure they are hiring the right people to use appropriate equipment.”

Speaking at the event will be Gary Rowland of leading food manufacturer Greencore. Gary will reveal how the company has successfully implemented efficient training for new operators, and the importance of supporting operators further through familiarisation training and safe systems of work, as well as what companies of every size and in every sector can learn from their approach.

Assigning the correct training… and the cost of failing to do so

Installing the proper processes is essential, but to help audiences understand how to assign relevant training, AITT technical experts will explain the importance of truck categorisation and appropriate training on the right equipment.

The conference will also feature input from David Lee of the HSE, who will set out the enforcement process that follows an accident, and the consequences for employers who do not produce clear training records. AITT’s webinar, to be held on Tuesday 3rd August, will include Q&As and interactive polls to offer audiences a chance to get involved with discussions.
