Handheld Group, a leading manufacturer of rugged mobile computers, PDAs and smartphones, today announced a major strategic five-year agreement with a global leader in logistic solutions. According to the agreement, Handheld’s innovative package sorting and printing device SP400X will be deployed across hundreds of package sorting facilities.

PostCardA5_AllThe five-year partnership with the global logistics giant is Handheld’s largest single deal to date. The end-customer is one of the world’s largest package delivery companies, and the partnership with Handheld will help them provide specialized transportation and logistics services to customers worldwide.

Handheld’s newly launched SP400X imprinter is an innovative printing device that is optimized for package sorting and inventory management operations. With inkjet printer technology licensed from Hewlett-Packard (HP), the SP400X provides users with an opportunity to significantly improve the efficiency of package sorting applications.

As previously announced, Handheld has entered into an agreement with HP to develop and sell printing products worldwide for the logistics industry based on HP’s thermal inkjet print cartridges. The SP400X imprinter is one such product, and it is specifically aimed at high volume sorting applications.

“We are proud to have been chosen to work together with another world-leading company,” said Jerker Hellström, CEO, Handheld. “Our product is a mission critical device that will help the client achieve significant productivity improvements. The SP400X imprinter is an important addition to our range of rugged mobile computers, and should be of interest to all high-volume scanning/sorting/printing applications. Potential clients include parcel delivery companies, postal agencies and logistics hubs.”

PostCard_A5_SP400_UK_2_high-resThe SP400X is a unique device that combines 2D scanning and inkjet printing. Optimized for high-volume scanning/sorting applications, the Handheld SP400X is designed to print directly on the objects being scanned, with no labels required. It can print on nearly any material, including cardboard, packing tape or glass. The SP400X can dramatically improve productivity in sorting and labeling processes, resulting in significant savings in resources, time, and money.

The lightweight SP400X can complete more than 1,250 scan/prints per hour, scanning and printing at speeds as fast as two seconds per cycle. It operates on a lithium-ion battery capable of delivering up to 7,000 scan/prints per charge.

The SP400X is available for order and delivery immediately.
