Powercell-7849-midOne of the UK’s leading industrial battery suppliers, PowerCell, has spoken out about the benefits of using fully qualified and highly motivated service engineers.

The award-winning company reports that an increasing number of forklift truck users are seeking its help after receiving poor service from certain suppliers. Such companies offer cut-price service rates to entice businesses away from more reputable, established servicing specialists but are often unable to deliver an acceptable standard of service.

Foremost among the complaints being reported are shoddy repairs, unreliable refurbishments, and batteries being replaced prematurely. Worryingly, for owners of forklift trucks, it could be that industrial batteries are recommended for replacement when they could be repaired or professionally regenerated.

Batteries aren’t cheap – a standard electric forklift battery typically costs thousands of pounds. When you consider that, for a fraction of the cost, these cells can often be repaired and/or regenerated to more than 70% of their original capacity, it becomes apparent just how much money businesses could save by ensuring that they work only with genuinely competent suppliers.

PowerCell’s managing director, Derek Anderson, said: “Companies – large or small – who own or rent electric fork lift trucks, should consider who they are asking to either represent them or work on site. For example, do they have the relevant insurance cover, are they able to produce the necessary HSE documentation, such as risk assessments, method statements, etc.? Do they belong to trade associations – such as the FLTA or Safe Contractor – who require certain standards of their members?

Powercell-7679-mid“Before agreeing that a battery be refurbished, we would advise truck owners to explore what the supplier is actually offering. For example, when PowerCell does a complete refurbishment of a battery, we put it through a full regeneration process and then carry out capacity tests guaranteeing the capacity that is in the battery.  In our experience, there is a marked difference between a battery refresh and battery regeneration – they are two entirely different processes.

“If anyone is in any doubt about the state of their battery or have any concerns, we would be happy to carry out a complete survey and give them the benefit of more than 240 years of collective industry experience”
