Van users have been reminded by The Fuelcard People that one simple cost-cutting and time-saving measure will benefit the environment as well. Steve Clarke, general manager of The Fuelcard People, said: “You compare the market and pick the right fuel card in order to reduce fuel costs and administration. Many businesses, though, overlook the potential to help the planet by completely eliminating the use of paper in fuel procurement.”
Fuel card users expect to save up to 4p per litre on national average pump costs and to replace all the traditional receipts and other paperwork with a single weekly invoice. Having all refuelling, fleetwide, appear on a single invoice brings major time savings through reduced administration.
“Every posted invoice,” said Steve Clarke, “is still one piece of paper and one envelope too many, not to mention the cost of postage. If every business opted to receive email invoices, it would remove the need for tonnes of paper and save countless trees from felling. On its own, this will not save the planet, but every contribution helps.”
Steve Clarke already does more than most in the fuel card business to help the environment. Under his leadership, The Fuelcard People became and remains the only transport sector company to be appointed an official partner of Cool Earth, through its innovative CO2Count emissions monitoring service. For every CO2Count Certificate issued, a donation to Europe’s fastest-growing environmental charity means an immediate, positive impact to protect threatened rainforests.
“This is not rocket science,” said Steve Clarke. “If everyone would simply print out fewer invoices, statements and other documents, we would not need to chop down as many trees. We are asking every van user to pause before printing anything and ask, ‘Do I really need to have this on paper?’ Just reducing the printouts by half will make a significant difference – and it would halve their paper and ink costs.”
The Fuelcard People deals with the refuelling concerns of van and other LCV users every day. It helps them to find the best refuelling deals through a range which includes commercial rate fuel cards valid at BP, Co-Op, Emo, Esso, Gulf, Shell, Texaco, Q8, Jet, Gulf, Spot, Murco, Morrisons, Pace and Moto filling stations, as well as on the Diesel Direct (Keyfuels), MyFuel and UK Fuels networks.
