Families from Redditch have enjoyed a summer day at the seaside thanks to support from the Oakland Foundation, the children’s charity founded by multi-temperature logistics specialist Oakland International.

The Foundation funded a day trip to Weston-Super-Mare organised by Bromsgrove and Redditch Best Start Family Hubs, enabling dozens of local parents and children to enjoy a day at the coast during the school holidays, with some youngsters visiting the seaside for the first time.
The initiative forms part of the Foundation’s commitment to helping children and families access opportunities that might otherwise be beyond their reach, while supporting stronger and more connected communities. Oakland Foundation Trustee Mark Williams attended the coach departure and witnessed the excitement among families preparing for the trip.
Mark commented: “It was wonderful to see the anticipation on the faces of the children as they set off for the seaside. Many parents took the time to thank us, highlighting how important opportunities such as this can be during the school holidays.
“For some families, experiences that many of us take for granted can be difficult to access. Helping create positive memories and giving children the chance to experience something new is exactly why the Foundation exists.”
For many children, the trip offered a traditional British seaside experience, from building sandcastles and paddling in the sea to spending valuable time with family and friends.
One parent said: “Really grateful for this opportunity to be able to go out and enjoy as a family.”
Bromsgrove and Redditch Best Start Family Hubs support children, young people and parents through a range of services, including parenting programmes, wellbeing support, activities, practical guidance and community outreach.
The Weston-Super-Mare visit formed part of the hubs’ wider efforts to encourage family engagement, reduce isolation and connect residents with local support services.
Mark added: “Through the Oakland Foundation, we are proud to support initiatives that make a meaningful difference to local families. By working alongside organisations such as Bromsgrove and Redditch Best Start Family Hubs, we can help create opportunities that deliver lasting benefits for children and parents alike.”
Founded by Oakland International, the Oakland Foundation supports projects across England and Wales that improve the lives of children and young people up to the age of 16. Through grants, partnerships and targeted community initiatives, the Foundation helps address barriers to opportunity and supports positive outcomes for families.
