When a specialist business in the mechanical and electrical industries relocated to a larger facility, the company needed a way to streamline loading while adapting to the demands of a high-volume dispatch operation. With over 40 vans moving through the site daily, loading them via their existing HGV docks quickly and safely was a priority. To achieve this without the cost and disruption of major building works, they turned to Thorworld Industries and sales agent loading and unloading specialists DARMAX UK to deliver the solution.

With a reputation built on safety, quality and reliability, Thorworld’s van ramps offered the customer a practical, scalable solution. The new system allows vans to reverse directly into the dock rather than being loaded outside in the yard whilst also enabling forklifts to enter the building safely. The ramps were set to the same height as the floor level inside the building allowing products to be transferred straight into the vans, improving safety and protecting customer products during loading.
The result was a space that allows the company to grow and provides clean, reliable and futureproofed way to bring vans inside the building without expensive civil works.
Thorworld refined the specification following a site survey to meet the customer’s current and future requirements. The final ramp system was designed for a higher 4.5-tonne capacity to allow for the eventual use of electric vehicles, with gradient and length tailored for optimal performance. The result is a professional, durable and visually striking addition to the site.
Another advantage is that the ramps have helped the customer to be more flexible, so they can schedule more efficiently and react more easily to ad hoc demand.
With further expansion plans on the horizon, the company is already considering increasing its ramp capacity from four to eight bays, confident that Thorworld’s solutions will continue to support its growth.
For other companies looking to relocate, this project highlights the versatility of van ramps when considering a new facility. For example, it opens up sites that are geographically beneficial but might previously have been overlooked. Likewise, van ramps are a strong long-term investment that can later be uplifted should the company move again in the future.
