A father and son from Hexham are preparing for the final round of the British Truck Racing Championship at Brands Hatch on October 31-November 1. Supported by ODYSSEY® battery, veteran driver Stuart Oliver will head into the championship finale in second place in the standings, while his son Michael Oliver is currently in fourth place.
Competing as Team Oliver Racing, the duo reaches speeds of up to 100 mph in five-tonne trucks. They have already recorded eight race wins this season, with results across Donington Park, Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Le Mans.
Stuart Oliver is a 10-time British Truck Racing Champion and former European Truck Racing Champion, having made his racing debut in 1998.
Speaking about the final round, Stuart said: “We’ve had a really good season so far and it’s great to be heading into the final in such a strong position. Brands Hatch always has a fantastic atmosphere and we’ll be giving it everything we’ve got to finish the season on a high.”
Inspired by his father’s success, Michael took part in his first competitive race in 2016, and the pair have been racing together ever since. Michael said: “It’s been a great season for us, and hopefully we can continue to give the fans plenty to cheer about at Brands Hatch. When you’re racing at this level, it’s important to have complete confidence in every part of the truck and its components. We’ve used ODYSSEY® batteries for many years because we know we can rely on their performance when we need it. They’ve never let us down.”
Sabine Lejeune, Sales Director EMEA Transportation at EnerSys, manufacturer of ODYSSEY® batteries, said: “We’re proud of our 10-year partnership with Team Oliver Racing. ODYSSEY® batteries are designed to deliver reliable starting power and deep cycling performance, while providing strong resistance to impact, shock and vibration. This makes them well suited to the demands of truck racing and a natural fit for the team. We’ve seen some fantastic performances from Team Oliver Racing over the years, and we’ll be behind the father and son duo once again as they head into the championship finale.”
Team Oliver Racing also uses the ODYSSEY® Connect battery monitoring system, which allows the team to monitor battery health and performance through an app.
