Peter Elmvang, Director of Marketing and Communications at BEUMER Group, speaks to Warehouse & Logistics News.

How would you explain the Beumer culture?

At BEUMER Group, our culture is built around a long-term, practical approach to business. We focus on understanding real operational needs, working closely with customers and delivering solutions that perform reliably over time.

It is rooted in engineering expertise, collaboration and a strong sense of partnership with our customers, where success is measured by consistent performance and long-term value rather than short-term results. How does this culture assist your clients’ requirements?

This approach allows us to focus on each customer’s specific operation rather than applying one standard solution.

In intralogistics, requirements can vary widely depending on the application, item profile and throughput needs. By working closely with customers from the outset, we can design solutions that are aligned with their processes, helping to improve efficiency, flow and overall system performance.

Do you have direct contact with customers, and get involved in developing solutions?

Yes, direct dialogue with customers is central to how we develop solutions.

Understanding the operational environment is essential in intralogistics, so we work closely with customers throughout the process — from initial concept through to implementation. This ensures that the final solution reflects real operational requirements and can be integrated effectively into existing systems.

Tell us how Beumer are growing in Europe?

Across Europe, growth is being driven by increasing demand for optimisation, automation and more resilient operations.

Many organisations are focusing on making better use of existing infrastructure, while managing more complex order profiles and higher volumes. This is creating opportunities for solutions that improve flow, increase flexibility and support more efficient use of space and resources.

What makes Beumer unique in your industry?

A key differentiator is our system approach. Rather than focusing on a single technology, we look at how different solutions can work together to support the overall process.

This includes combining different sorting, conveying and robotic technologies with software into one integrated system. By taking this broader view, we can help customers create solutions that are aligned with their operations and can adapt as requirements evolve.

What solutions do you offer customers?

BEUMER Group offers a wide range of intralogistics and sortation solutions.

These include line sorters, loop sorters and pouch systems, as well as conveying, robotics, software and system integration. Together, these solutions support efficient material flow across warehouse, distribution and parcel handling operations.

On top of this BEUMER Group offers a complete range of Customer Support services and products including diagnostic support (remote monitoring, data analytics and hotline), on-site support (field service and operations & maintenance) and life cycle support (training, spare parts and upgrades).

What sectors do these clients work in?

Our customers operate across a broad range of industries, including fashion, retail, pharmaceuticals, e-commerce and Courier, Express and Parcel.

We also support customers in airports, cement, minerals and mining, reflecting the versatility of our material handling and automation solutions.

How can your solutions help?

Our solutions are designed to improve material flow in a way that fits each operation.

In warehouse and distribution environments, systems can support buffering, sequencing, order consolidation and returns processing. In parcel logistics, they can support efficient handling across a wide range of item types while maintaining reliable throughput and flow.

The overall aim is to reduce complexity, improve efficiency and support stable operations.

How future-proof and flexible are your solutions?

Our solutions are designed with future requirements in mind, focusing on flexibility, scalability and long-term operational use.

We use a modular approach, allowing systems to be expanded or adapted as volumes, item profiles and operational demands change. This supports customers in responding to seasonal peaks, new fulfilment models and evolving expectations without major redesigns.

We also focus on how different technologies work together within one system, helping customers build solutions that can evolve alongside their business while maintaining reliable performance.

BEUMER Group have systems that have been running at customer sites for more than 30 years.

What new services/solutions are you offering for 2026?

In 2026, we continue to focus on expanding automation, particularly in areas such as robotics, data-driven system optimisation and integrated intralogistics solutions.

The emphasis is on applying these technologies in a practical way within existing operations, helping customers improve efficiency, reduce manual processes and gain better visibility of system performance.

What do you see as the biggest opportunities in the coming year for Beumer?

One of the biggest opportunities is supporting customers in optimising existing operations.

There is strong demand for solutions that can improve efficiency, handle more complex order and parcel profiles, and make better use of available space. As expectations around delivery speed and service continue to increase, there is also an opportunity to help customers build more responsive and adaptable systems.

What are the biggest challenges facing Beumer and your industry?

The main challenges reflect those faced by our customers, including labour availability, cost pressures and increasing operational complexity.

In addition, organisations are dealing with higher expectations around delivery times, fluctuating volumes and the need to integrate new technologies into existing environments. Addressing these challenges requires solutions that are both reliable and adaptable.

Tell us about a recent project Beumer was involved with.

One recent project is our work with OVS, one of Italy’s leading fashion retailers. At its distribution centre in Bari, OVS implemented our BG Pouch System with AutoDrop to support high-volume retail store replenishment. The system combines transport, buffering, sorting and sequencing, while its overhead layout makes efficient use of the available warehouse space.

The operation uses manual batch picking, with items loaded into individual pouches before being transported and consolidated according to each store order. Once an order is complete, it is released directly to the AutoDrop unloading area, where items are automatically unloaded into cartons for packing and dispatch. The system currently handles around 5,000 to 6,000 items per hour.

AutoDrop was an important part of the project, enabling fully automated, contactless unloading and reducing manual handling at the packing stations.

Do you cover the whole of Europe?

BEUMER Group supports customers across Europe as part of its wider international organisation.

With a strong regional presence and global expertise, we work with customers across a range of industries to deliver and support intralogistics solutions throughout their lifecycle.
