For decades, commercial vehicle conversions have been designed using engineering expertise, customer experience and industry best practice. But until now, there has been no reliable way of knowing whether a vehicle is truly configured for the way it is used in the real world.

Modul-System UK is seeking to change that with the launch of Modul Workspace Intelligence, an AI-powered workspace optimisation programme that combines vehicle usage data with operational job information to provide evidence-based recommendations for improving productivity, ergonomics, safety and fleet efficiency.
Rather than asking ‘What racking should this vehicle have?’, the programme asks a more important question: ‘Is this vehicle actually configured correctly for the job it performs?’
As part of the process, a discreet AI camera system is temporarily installed inside a working vehicle for a two-week audit. The technology is designed to measure workspace performance—not employee performance—creating a heatmap of how the load space is actually used. This information is analysed alongside operational job-card data to build a picture of real-world working practices.
Following the audit, the equipment is removed and Modul-System’s engineering team provides a tailored optimisation report based on actual operational behaviour.
The programme is expected to demonstrate that many vehicle layouts are based on assumptions rather than evidence. Frequently used tools may be positioned furthest from the working area, while prime storage locations are occupied by equipment rarely accessed. It may also identify material bins that are never opened, tools that are carried but never used and opportunities to simplify the overall storage specification.
