At LogiMAT 2026, BEUMER Group showcased how its proven stretch hood technology is being applied to modern warehousing, retail and contract logistics environments. In this interview, Jörg Spiekermann, Head of Sales Consumer Goods, BEUMER Group, discusses the company’s latest packaging solutions, and how automation can help logistics operators save time, reduce manual labour and protect high-value goods.

What products did you display at LogiMAT?

At LogiMAT this year, we showcased our BEUMER stretch hood® A system which ensures high load stability and protection for all palletised goods during transport and storage. One example on the stand was a Kaufland pallet display, developed for seasonal retail campaigns such as Easter, Halloween and Christmas. Previously, all the film wrapping was done manually using black film, with around 1,000 displays handled per day. BEUMER provided an automated solution: a standard stretch hood system using an in-house pallet. The display is placed on the pallet, and our system covers it with a stretch hood.

Compared to conventional alternatives such as shrink hooding or stretch wrapping, stretch hood technology is more energy and material-efficient, reducing operational costs while maintaining high throughput. In addition, the transparent stretch hoods offer good product visibility and effective product protection by safeguarding goods from moisture, dirt, and unauthorised access. Afterwards, the display is picked up by a forklift. This way, one forklift driver can manage 1,000 pallets a day.

How many can you do in a day?

The BEUMER stretch hood® A has a capacity of 120 pallets per hour and it doesn’t matter if it is a customised pallet, a standard pallet or a display. At LogiMAT, we displayed a stretch hood film with a thickness of 40 microns which is normally usable for consumer goods or in logistics. It’s very common, safe and quite cheap, with a high capacity.

Is this a new area for BEUMER?

BEUMER has been perfecting the stretch hood technology for many years. We started in the cement industry, building material industry and chemical industry. But over the last 20 years, we have expanded the use of BEUMER stretch hood® technology into other sectors, including retail, production logistics and contract logistics. Normally, we sell a complete packaging line including our Filling, Palletising & Packaging range. But in these environments, customers only need a wrapping machine or a stretch hood system.

Companies such as Adidas and other retailers have used this solution. They need a reliable packaging solution for high-value products. Sometimes, a single pallet can contain goods worth up to 100,000 euros, such as Bose sound systems or high-value electronic dial parts. By automating the process, customers save money, time and reduce manual labour. They save around 10 minutes of manual working time per pallet, making it a very efficient solution.
