Leading fashion and homeware omnichannel retailer, Matalan won the Retail category at this year’s Supply Chain Excellence Awards in partnership with KNAPP and DFT. The accolade was presented to representatives of the three companies at a red-carpet awards ceremony on 6 November at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
The automated systems installed at Matalan’s Knowsley distribution centre – including KNAPP’s efficient Evo Shuttle storage solution and DFT’s proven pocket sorter technology – have enabled the retailer to extend its order deadline for next-day delivery by 6 hours, as well as reducing the average time from order placement to delivery by 48 hours. Automation has been leveraged to transform first the e-commerce operation and then retail fulfilment at the Knowsley site, increasing order accuracy to 99.8%.
“We are currently working on the fifth expansion of this solution,” says Craig Rollason, Managing Director for KNAPP UK. “This latest project will make the automated system double its original size by 2027. We are delighted to have achieved this award with Matalan and DFT, which recognises the innovation, collaboration and sheer hard work of all three teams.”
