Midac UK was short-listed as ‘Supplier of the Year’ at the industry’s 2024 Archies Awards by the UK Material Handling Association and attended the prestigious awards in September.

The nomination recognised the company’s recent product innovation and specifically Midac’s high efficiency range, which is a lead acid battery with advanced cell chemistry. When paired with a battery management unit (BMU) and a high efficiency intelligent charger, the battery provides a wide range of benefits including charging flexibility, energy efficiencies and longer life.

Through improved battery design and close battery voltage and temperature measurement, the charging algorithm can be adjusted to prevent the battery from overheating, overcharging, thermal runaway and undesired gassing.

The range is ideal for a 24/6-day operation and requires a 7th day equalisation allowing the battery to gas and the cells to re-balance. Batteries can be opportunity charged in as little as 10 minutes and are designed to reduce current resistance, slow heat build and improve current flow resulting in a more efficient system, which requires less kw/h to charge, reducing energy costs (as much as 50%) and CO? emissions.

This advanced technology enables the product to have a longer life span (1800 cycles rather than the standard 1500 cycles) and due to the charging flexibility can eliminate the need for battery change, saving time and space.

The battery is almost entirely recyclable, and Midac hopes this will further encourage the move away from diesel powered trucks and toward cleaner electric trucks, benefiting the environment.

Rebecca Smith, Business and Finance Director of Midac UK, comments “We are delighted to be nominated for an Archie and for our focus on innovation to be recognised. We have listened to the needs of our customers and developed products that push the market forward in terms of efficiency, lowering costs and extending product life. Our high efficiency range is proving to be very popular and is an ideal alternative to Lithium offering many of the benefits without the high price tag.”

Looking forward to 2025, Midac has a busy year planned, with the IMHX exhibition already booked in the diary for 9th -11th September.
