The Association of Pallet Networks statistics for the first half of 2024 show steady growth of 1.5% in pallet volumes, and 3.5% growth in Q2 against the same period last year. Next day services account for 61.5% of the total volume, and economy services for 39.0%, reflecting a slight increase in the use of economy services from the full year 2023. In the first half of 2024 all pallet sizes have seen growth compared to volumes for the same period in 2023, with full pallets increasing by 1%, half pallets by +0.9% and quarter pallets by +3.7%.

Just months into the contract HMT Group, supported by Palletline London which is a part of Palletline Logistics, recently achieved 100% on time in full delivery, representing the consistently high expectations that Havwoods has for its logistics partners. It is a significant win for HMT; these impressive figures involve the precision delivery of Havwoods flooring products to high-end hotels and restaurants, and some of the most exclusive residential and retail developments throughout the Greater London area and beyond.
Following the launch of Pall-Ex’s CPC Training Academy in September 2023, the industry-first initiative is on track to train a minimum of 250 people by the end of the year following an increase in courses. Established with the objective of improving road safety, Pall-Ex has led from the front by being the first pallet network to offer in-house CPC training to its staff and network members. To date, over 106 drivers have been trained across 11 sessions. Offered on-site at Pall-Ex’s Leicestershire HQ and remotely, the CPC academy is managed by Craig Brown, an in-house, fully qualified trainer with 25 years of driver training experience, who tailors the sessions to the exact requirements of each driver.
Pallet-Track has welcomed the Channel Islands’ fastest growing logistics provider JPGL to its network as part of its own strategy for growth. JPGL will transport pallets from Pallet-Track’s network to its sister company Woodside Logistics in Portsmouth for final mile delivery to the Channel Islands, servicing the Jersey and Guernsey postcodes. The two companies are part of Jersey Post Group and collectively employ more than 150 colleagues across their sites in Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Wight and across the UK.
A leading transport and logistics firm in Liverpool has partnered with the NHS to promote organ donation across the country. Sovereign Transport, a member of the Palletways network, wrapped one of its double-decker trailers with ‘NHSBT Lifesaver’ branding after a specialist nurse from the North West Organ Donation Services Team reached out about the ongoing collaboration. The branded trailer is now on the road on a daily basis, delivering freight between Liverpool, Leeds, the Midlands and Scotland.
It is excellent to see pallet volumes increasing, an indicator of the health of warehousing and logistics in general.
