The United Kingdom is at the forefront of warehouse automation, according to recent research. Dave Berridge, AMHSA Secretary, takes a look.

A recent report by market research firm, Interact Analysis puts the UK ahead of the pack when it comes to warehouse automation. Their study predicts that, driven by a combination of high levels of e-commerce and high labour costs, the UK will be Europe’s largest warehouse automation market by 2025.

Despite the economy officially being in recession and the continued challenges posed by inflation and high interest rates, demand for intralogistics automation remains strong. This is driven by ongoing labour availability issues in the warehousing market, along with the long-term growth in e-commerce. Put simply, labour shortages mean that many companies feel they have no choice but to automate.

Stronger together

Of course, AMHSA members will continue to provide the lion’s share of solutions in the UK warehouse automation market. With around 60 members, AMHSA is the voice of the UK’s automated intralogistics industry and seeks to accelerate the adoption of world-class material handling automation across the UK supply chain. The association has, as members, some of the leading authorities on the innovative technologies, both fixed and mobile, employed in automated systems today. Active within these members are many of our industry’s thought leaders, so AMHSA is the natural place to find the solution to your intralogistics challenges, whether big or small. Individually powerful, together AMHSA members are unstoppable.

Informative workshops

AMHSA provides a programme of training workshops and networking events to facilitate the sharing of best practice in the sector. Recent training events have informed members about the IET’s latest revision to the Model Form of Contract (MF/1) and the changes to FM 8-34 concerning fire protection of automated storage systems. Coming soon is a masterclass on structural engineering to learn more about mezzanine systems.

Upcoming exhibitions

You can meet with no less than 19 AMHSA members at the co-located IntraLogisteX and Robotics & Automation shows at the NEC on 19 & 20 March. AMHSA is once again supporting IWLEX, which returns on 14 & 15 May at NAEC Stoneleigh, as well as the Tomorrow’s Warehouse events, which take place on 20 June in Coventry and 2 October in Manchester.
