With its new Hangcha XE series, HC Forklifts UK is bringing lithium-ion (Li-ion) power to even more operations previously served by IC engine trucks. Equally at home indoors or outdoors, these powerful, efficient and economical 2.0 to 3.8 tonne 80V lift trucks take the advantages of electric technology to another level.

Buyers will find all the durability and strength they expect from diesel and LPG forklifts, but with electric refinement. Better still, the Hangcha XE series offers high quality at a low purchase and running cost.

Advanced power and efficiency

A key advance is the use of an 80V double permanent magnet synchronous motor system, which allows higher power density. Optimal matching of the system’s high-torque motors, high-ratio gearbox and electronic controls results in energy savings of 15 to 20% compared to traditional synchronous motors in the same working conditions. Meanwhile, travel speed, gradeability and lifting speed are boosted.

As one of the world’s leading forklift manufacturers, Hangcha continues to innovate and to improve upon existing technologies. For instance, this series also sees the first use of oil pump reducers, which enable the lift motors to work more energy-efficiently and smoothly. Another unusual feature is an air-cooled fan, built into the travel and lift motors to dissipate heat more effectively. This enhances both performance and reliability.

Resilient outdoors – and welcome indoors

Hangcha XE series models are available in standard and heavy-duty versions – the latter being configured for the most demanding of applications. Importantly, they are all tested to meet both electric and IC engine lift truck standards. Buyers can be confident that their proven, rugged design will ensure reliable and durable service across the whole spectrum of typical IC engine and electric forklift operational environments.

In fact, they share a number of important characteristics and features with the well-established Hangcha IC engine truck ranges. These include large pneumatic tyres, high ground clearance, and strengthening of the mast, gearbox and drive axle. In heavy-duty versions, the steering axle is fitted with hardwearing tapered roller bearings.

Like their IC engine counterparts, the trucks are resistant to wet conditions. They are sealed to IPX4 standard to prevent water ingress when operating on waterlogged surfaces or in rainstorms, for instance. For dependability in cold weather, the battery is equipped with an electric heating module.

Thanks to their resilient construction, Hangcha XE models can clearly cope well with outdoor work in harsh weather and on rough ground. At the same time, however, they are well suited to indoor workplaces such as warehouses – and can be optionally adapted for use in cold stores. In addition to their zero emissions, their advantages indoors include a small turning radius for manoeuvring in tight spaces.

Electric refinement

Unlike many of its rivals, Hangcha has designed these trucks from the ground up as Li-ion forklifts. They are not simply modified lead-acid trucks. In the process of integrating the batteries into the structure, this manufacturer has lowered the trucks’ centre of gravity – for higher stability and greater residual capacity. The resulting design has also created a larger operator compartment with a clearer all-round view.

Driver comfort and ergonomics, which are essential to productivity, have been prioritised. The steering wheel and seat are positionally adjustable for each user. Features designed to minimise effort and fatigue include a large brake pedal, strong regenerative braking and other intuitive controls. Conventional hydraulic levers, fitted as standard, can be replaced by an optional fingertip control unit if preferred. An electronic handbrake option is a further luxury.

Driving and load handling are smooth and quiet, with refinements including a soft-landing system for the forks. A clear colour-screen display keeps the operator fully informed of the truck’s status and settings. Weatherproofing options for the driver include a windshield, roof cover or full cabin.
