Phase Two of Symmetry Park Aston Clinton saw the development of three environmentally sustainable, premium industrial units offering warehousing and distribution space plus Grade A office accommodation.

Working alongside Readie Construction and AJA Architects, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems supplied the scheme with loading dock equipment and accessories for both standard and tall bays as well as secure steel-hinged doors for internal and external use.

Built to a high specification, the development, which occupies a 46-acre site next to the A41 near Aylesbury, is the largest speculative industrial, warehouse and distribution facility in the north west M25 region. Developer Tritax Symmetry is dedicated to providing best-in-class greener logistics buildings and the Aston Clinton site has achieved EPC A and BREEAM Very Good.

As a logistics facility, installing the right loading dock equipment was essential. Our involvement began at the proposal stage to ensure manufacture, delivery and installation were not only in line with the build programme, but integrated seamlessly with other trades.

Meeting exact specifications

From dock doors to levellers everything was provided according to Tritax’s specifications, appealing to the widest range of potential tenants.

ASSA ABLOY DL6010S hydraulic swing lip dock levellers were supplied longer than standard, at 4m, to minimise the gradient of the leveller when in use and allow for maximum functionality. Fitted in each of the three units, in a total of 32 standard and 10 tall bays, the ASSA ABLOY leveller features a bevelled lip to stop equipment from grounding out on the bed of docked trailers while the open hinge design prevents the accumulation of debris, reducing lifetime maintenance.

Additionally, each unit had two vehicular entrances specified. In Unit 5 these openings were 7m wide to allow the incoming tenant to move oversized items in and out of the building. This required a non-standard solution in the form of our OH1042P level access doors, a versatile overhead sectional door that can be tailored to meet almost any requirement.

OH1042P dock doors were also fitted in each of the loading bays. In order to fit with the Tritax aesthetic, these were provided factory painted in bespoke shades of green and beige.

Delivering sustainability

As well as delivering exceptional performance, the equipment installed also had to meet the scheme’s strict environmental standards.

ASSA ABLOY’s dock doors are well-insulated, with class 3 certification for water tightness, wind load and air permeability, excellent U-values and innovative sealing at the bottom, sides and top to reduce heat loss.

The ASSA ABLOY DS6060A (standard) and DS6060P (tall) dock shelters provide weather protection and reduce draughts entering the building when vehicles are on the dock, improving working conditions and contributing to overall energy reduction initiatives.

Each bay was also fitted with the virtually indestructible ASSA ABLOY DE6090DL dock light, a heavy-duty LED light that is energy efficient and built to perform in the most demanding environments. With a cast aluminium housing and shatterproof polycarbonate lens cover, it can withstand dust, water spray and even a hit from a moving forklift.

Exceptional security

As part of the industrial door package, 20 steel-hinged doors were supplied and fitted across the three units. Security rated to LPS1175 SR2 and Secured by Design certified, they offer an enhanced level of security, contributing to BREEAM points and reducing insurance costs.

The use of ASSA ABLOY industrial doors at Symmetry Park Aston Clinton has helped Tritax Symmetry to deliver the kind of high-quality accommodation that tenants expect, with warehousing and logistics units that are highly functional, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally efficient.
