At loading bays and docks where areas are exposed to the elements, fast opening and closing door speeds are essential. Internally between halls or different zones of production areas, temperature control or air purity may be your key consideration. Along conveyor lines, or around robotic or hazardous equipment, machine protection may be your concern. Consider too that incidents not only can cause injuries to people, but they can result in unwanted costly downtime, which can have an unexpected knock-on effect that ripples through the processing facility, according to Efaflex.

One of the main issues with standard industrial doors is that the large opening can cause serious heat loss in a building, which is especially important to businesses who need to keep factories or warehouses climate controlled such as the food production and storage industry. Contamination from either outside-in or inside-out also needs to be considered. Klimate, a division of BID Group Ltd, specialise in the manufacture, service, and repair of High Speed Doors and boast a full product range that includes the K2 Freezer door, ARDENT Standard, Stainless Steel and Oversize for extra-large openings.

The new high speed industrial sectional door from Hörmann UK, the Series 60, has been designed and developed to provide quality construction, high security, and easy installation. When fitted with the new WA 500 FU operator, the Series 60 can achieve an impressive door opening speed of up to 1 m/s making it the fastest sectional door on the market, helping speed up warehouse operations and reduce building heat loss. To illustrate just how fast the Series 60 is, Hörmann have produced a speed test film which clearly demonstrates the superior speed of the new door when compared directly with an older version of the door.

Product packaging manufacturer Sealed Air, known for brands such as Bubble Wrap and Cryovac, were looking to segregate a dusty process area and a clean room within their St. Neots facility. Sealed Air chose Westgate as an integrated solutions provider with experience and expertise in providing and project managing the delivery of multiple solutions. Westgate supplied and installed three runs of Flexiwall, totalling 45 linear metres, and included a number of Fastflex fast action doors, shutter doors, pedestrian doors and vision panels.

As warehouses become busier, let’s hope that the highest standards of safety are maintained around loading bay doors.
