On 1st April 2022 the subsidy on red diesel used in forklifts will end, meaning a huge rise in fuel costs.

But according to Stewart Gosling of RDD, UK importers of Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks, there is now a genuine alternative to engine-powered forklifts, in the shape of the new 4-5.5 tonne EDiA XL. “It will do everything a diesel can do, only better… and much, much cheaper,” he says.

“Using the industry standard EN 16796-6 standard to compare energy efficiency, switching from a leading 5 tonne diesel truck to the Mitsubishi EDiA XL will save you over £33,000 over a typical 5-year term.” But the benefits aren’t purely financial. EDiA XL comes with all the advantages inherent in electrics: greater manoeuvrability plus smooth, quiet and pollution-free operation.

Equally at home outdoors or inside, this powerful new truck is built for the most demanding applications. Take ramp work. The unique AutoBoost feature automatically delivers additional power where and when it’s needed – such as driving up steep inclines.

Supremely sure-footed the EDiA XL features another important innovation: an electric differential lock that delivers exceptional traction and control, even in the most hostile environments.

At the rear of the truck the wheels turn through a massive 100-degree lock to help deliver the smallest turning circle on the market – typically 500mm less than diesel models – to facilitate greater storage density.

What’s more, because the EDiA XL utilises four wheel steering, it literally turns on the spot and there is no “push-back” when setting off at full lock, eliminating damage to stock or racking.

For an operator used to diesel power, EDiA XL offers a very different driving experience. Rubber mountings on the spacious comfortable cabin dramatically reduce microvibrations while noise levels inside the cabin are extremely low at just 65dB.
