Demand for storage space has grown dramatically over the last year. The peak of demand was around the summer of 2020 when enquiries for additional warehousing were an estimated 111% higher than the previous year. Demand for industrial storage space could increase for another three years due to the rise in online shopping, experts have predicted. This is all the more reason why the racking system needs a thorough maintenance, inspection and repair programme. The racking installation has to cope with high loads, impacts and collisions every day.

The Sacchi Group (part of Sonepar Group), one of Italy’s leading electrical product wholesalers, has selected Vanderlande as a partner for a new ADAPTO goods-to-person (GtP) solution inside its existing warehousing facility in Desio, north of Milan. The solution will initially include manual receiving stations, picking stations served by dedicated picking lifts and clearing stations. In addition to erection and closing systems, the shipping sorter will be expanded. The ADAPTO system will have 58 ADAPTO shuttles spread over 29 levels.

Designed for warehouses and all storage facilities where pallet racking is used, award winning Rack Collapse Prevention’s unique UK and EU patented top-supporting pallet racking safety system is transforming pallet racking safely. In the event a building’s structure is not suitable, then a secondary steel structure can be installed, which doesn’t impact structure integrity and forms a support for the suspension cables, insuring zero weight-transfer from the compromised rack-load. Where installed and fitted to fully loaded racking in a classic steel framed warehouse, in the event of a single or multiple support leg damage incident, racking would drop slightly but remain stable and prevent rack collapse failure.

Waitrose & Partners has increased its storage capacity with the extension of its facilities in Magna Park, Milton Keynes to consolidate its position as a leader in its sector in the British market. The new extension consists of an intralogistics solution with AR Racking’s adjustable pallet racking that achieved an added storage capacity for 13,604 UK pallets. It is a storage system that will provide the warehouse with great agility in loading and unloading operations, with direct and immediate access to the goods.

United Storage Systems installed a new mezzanine floor and three staircases with mid-landings for JD Sports’ store at Westfield Shopping Centre, Stratford. The final floor and staircases installed at the shop consisted of a 670 sq m mezzanine floor with a finished floor level of 2515mm and a natural 22mm deck finish. Three back of house staircases with rectangular hollow section top stringers, top rail and knee rail were also installed.

With the volume of online shopping continuing to increase, demand for storage space will grow accordingly, a bonus for storage systems firms.
