Midlands-based Smart-Space manufactures and installs instant buildings for all manner of applications and has recently been working on a number of loading bay solutions. Two notable installations include global car components company IAC at its Halewood plant and a London-based bakery business, Adelie Foods.

IAC Halewood needed a loading bay tunnel at its warehouse exit point to keep the sloping ramp dry. They use a train-style vehicle for transporting items from one facility to another and wet weather was causing the vehicle to snake as it descended out of the building.

After much consideration and exploring a few options, a tunnel with clear sides and clear roof panels was installed. The transparent sides provide visibility all round – for the driver and any site pedestrians – and also negate the need for artificial lighting. The installation also provided some unexpected advantages by keeping the warehouse warmer and the interior well protected from the elements.

“The Smart-Space team was very friendly. They came on-site to discuss what we needed, check measurements and complete a site survey. Once the build started, they even helped me erect the diversion fences as well, they really were helpful” commented the project leader at IAC Halewood.

Adelie Foods is based on a prominent industrial park in Heathrow. They needed to be able to load up their fleet of vans under cover to allow for the inclement British weather. The company delivers bakery products all over London and so it was really important that the products stay dry and fresh.

The landlord of the park didn’t like the idea of having anything that looked temporary or with a PVC roof on their most prestigious site. Smart-Space came up with a design for bespoke loading canopies that blend in and look as though they have been there since day one.

“We chose Smart-Space because they came up with a design that the standard rental companies could not achieve. Having the silver steel roof instead of the PVC one enabled us to keep our landlord happy and keep our business moving forward.”

“Because we are a UK-based company using British products we can keep supplying instant buildings for any eventuality right now. As we are independent we can also work out terms that suit our customers” explained Sales Director Jason Lynock. “We also enjoy the challenge of thinking of solutions that serve our customers with exactly what they need.”
