Carpets, coffins, lamp posts, frocks, pipes, chipboard, steel, timber, lintels, mobile phones are just a few of the items that are often not stored on pallets.

You mustn’t worry though, because there are bespoke storage solutions for all of them, just ask Warehouse Systems Limited.

When storing your carpets WSL can provide you with a carpet racking system which looks like pallet racking but on a much larger scale. Note that a specialist fork lift “boom” attachment is required for moving the carpets in and out of the racking safely and without damage. Most modern carpets are manufactured from 4m wide rolls with a cardboard roll in the middle. The fork lift boom easily goes down the centre of the tube and allows the operator to pick the roll up without having to touch the carpet. The rack itself is constructed from heavy duty extra deep pallet racking with decking on each level.

Pipes, lamp posts, steel, lintels, coffins are all long in length and often stored in bundles so they are the perfect candidate for cantilever racking. Not only do WSL supply cantilever racking, they design each rack to precisely accommodate your product range and then manufacture it.

With over a century of combined experience in designing cantilever racking you can be sure that your system exactly meets your requirements. For example, it is often more cost effective to store two packs deep, but how do you keep them separated? WSL can design the rack with separators so the FLT can load or unload one pack at a time. Also to stop all your copper pipes from falling on the floor WSL can put end stops on the “arms” to stop the tubes rolling off. What’s more your new floor boards won’t get wet because they also supply everything from a simple canopy to a fully clad rack structure.

Jackets, Dresses, Trousers, in fact all Garments in general can be especially difficult to store efficiently. They can be delivered to the warehouse in boxes, on hanger or ever loose, however WSL have a solution for any situation. They have just finished installing the two largest garment hanging storage and sortation systems in the country this year. This was designed alongside the customer using motorized and gravity trolley track systems and bulk storage.

At the other end of the spectrum storage may be required for items too small for a pallet. The most cost effective solution may be longspan shelving, (It looks like scaled down pallet racking) with chipboard decking. Great for storing boxed products including mobile phones.

Another alternative is short span shelving. This uses steel shelves and can accommodate dividers to sub divide each individual shelf so that individual product type can be stored in each compartment.

Both long span and short span can be used in multi-tiers to increase the volume of storage and reduce the floor space required.

WSL even has a solution for those of you who require none stop order picking, 24 hours a day without pausing to reload your shelves. They provide a carton live system which enable pickers to continually take singular items out of the totes on the shelf. Once empty the tote is removed so the next one can slide into position whilst another operative ensures lanes are kept full.

Whatever your pallet-less challenge; WSL is definitely your best shot.
