Hörmann is supporting the logistics industry in successfully managing the increase in ECommerce parcel volumes (a growth of 9% annually), with the development of its new BBS Dock Seal.

As online shopping continues to dominate the retail sector, it has become vital for supply chain operations to also facilitate the “last mile” journey for same day or next day delivery. This subsequently creates additional issues relating to the nature of warehouse design as logistics companies must specify suitable solutions that meet the requirements of diverse vehicle types.

To provide its clients in creating multi-faceted delivery hubs that incorporate a wide range of technologies, Hörmann’s new BBS Dock Seal has been designed specifically for supporting the loading and unloading of smaller transport vehicles.

The latest dock seal can safely accommodate smaller commercial vehicles, such as the Mercedes Sprinter van, as it features a foamfilled cushion that creates a seamless connection between the vehicle and the warehouse. This provides enhanced temperature control as the potential transfer of heat is reduced, whilst also supporting the safe movement of goods.

For enhanced usability, Hörmann recommends the use of its BBS Dock seal with longer dock levellers that feature telescopic lips to provide greater flexibility in order to meet the changing demands of the fleet vehicles being used.

Historically, swing lip dock levellers were commonplace in warehouses, as only larger fleets were catered for. However, in today’s fastpaced e-commerce environment, landlords together with logistics companies, are now looking to specify longer dock levellers with telescopic lips to provide greater flexibility for all types of fleet vehicles.

Additional leveller options, including the Hörmann HTLV-3, provides a flexible telescopic lip suitable for standard trailers sizes including a euro trailer, right down to smaller vans for loading and unloading. Paul Tulley, Key Account Manager for Hörmann UK, said: “The expectations and requirements of supply chain operations is continuing to evolve in order to meet the needs of customers, particularly with regard to the rise in e-commerce purchases and the demand for same or next day delivery. We work closely with each of our clients at the initial design stages to ensure their warehouses cater for all types of vehicle fleets to ensure as a business they can facilitate a 360º operation.”

The BBS Dock Seal is also supported by a superior aftersales offering of a 12-month warranty, which is backed up by Hörmann UK’s nationwide network of service engineers. The team of trained professionals are available in the shortest lead times to minimise any potential downtime in the potential event of a fault or damage.
