Warehouse Systems Limited was approached by bespoke canvas manufacturer, Canvasman, for a quotation for a mezzanine floor installation and a number of customised sewing benches.

Canvasman is a successful manufacturer of boat coverings, sails, custom made vehicle coverings and many other bespoke canvas products. Their sales have increased in recent years, to the point that the company needed to expand into a larger premises. After finding suitable premises, Canvasman management decided that it would be beneficial to build an office mezzanine; making use of the height of the building while ensuring that no space was taken away from the factory area below.

Annette Ranton; PA to the Managing Director approached a number of mezzanine installers for quotations. She found that WSL responded quickly and efficiently, with excellent communication throughout the quotation process.

Impressed with the service, communication and competitive cost, Canvasman commissioned WSL for the mezzanine manufacture and installation, also requesting a number of custom built sewing benches.

WSL fabricated the structure of the mezzanine in their Leeds factory, before constructing it on site. The mezzanine design incorporated a number of important fire and building regulations, including two staircases (for access at both sides of the platform), a fire resistant suspended ceiling, a facia and column casings. These items enable the finished structure to have a one hour fire rating.

WSL custom built the bespoke sewing benches in the WSL factory and a joiner professionally fitted the wooden tops, resulting in madeto- measure sewing benches to the client’s exact specifications.

Throughout the manufacturing and construction process, foremen were on site at all times and the WSL project manager kept in constant contact with Annette who was overseeing the project. She says; “Communication was excellent. I was given one contact. If information was being sent to another colleague within WSL, I was copied in so I was constantly kept in the loop of the whole job. I was also able to communicate via email and telephone. Both mediums were offered and I felt comfortable that if I needed a quick response I could ring and it was dealt with immediately.”

The excellent communication throughout made the project as stress-free as possible for the clients. Canvasman was delighted with the end result; a fire rated office mezzanine floor produced quickly and efficiently within the agreed timescale.
