WLN – As a top Environmental supplier, what have conditions been like in the past year for your business?

2016 has been an exciting year of change at Easypack – changes which will offer long term benefits to our customers.

At the beginning of 2016 we were acquired by a major US packaging organisation, Pregis LLC. Pregis is a leading provider of innovative protective packaging materials and systems. The acquisition enables Pregis to expand its North American product portfolio to include the Easypack environmentally friendly paper void fill, cushioning and block/brace solutions. Our new partnership with Pregis strengthens our ability to not only extend our offerings throughout Europe, but also to offer our customers an even greater choice of innovative packing solutions over the coming years.

WLN – How have recent international developments affected you and how have you responded?

At this time, despite the decision for the UK to leave the EU, we haven’t been affected and our exports remain strong.

WLN – What are your flagship products and services?

Easypack manufacture highly reliable packaging systems that enable customers from multiple sectors to pack sustainably, efficiently and cost effectively using 100% recycled, biodegradable and recyclable paper. Our systems are renowned for their quality and versatility, allowing customers to use different packing techniques. Our packmaster™, packmate® and packsolo® systems offer the very best in economical yet robust in-the-box cushion packaging – they can be found in packing operations across a wide range of industries from motor parts through to delicate ceramics.

Our packmate online™, spiral pro® and freestyle™ systems are top sellers when it comes to online packing due to their high speed efficiency and flexible paper options. And then our ergonomically designed packstation™ is one of the most versatile, user-friendly packing stations on the market, as endorsed by many well-known FMCG brands.

Our customers benefit hugely from dealing with us directly because we hold large stocks of our 100% recycled paper, enabling us to deliver the next day. In addition, through our UK wide network of customer support staff, customers receive a premium, face-to-face service at all times, whether it’s to provide training, preventative maintenance or product consultancy.
WLN – What makes you the ‘go to’ supplier in your category?

There’s no doubt that our customers benefit from dealing with us, the manufacturer, direct. Through our knowledge we’ve helped to educate our customers as to which systems offer them the most cost effective solution. As the UK’s leading supplier of 100% recycled, recyclable and biodegradable paper packaging, we’re able to easily demonstrate the benefits of high performance 100% recycled paper over less environmentally alternatives.

WLN – How do you help customers improve their business performance?

We do this in a number of ways. We work closely with our customers to accurately calculate their usage and packing methods. Through these calculations we can show them how they can pack more efficiently and reduce waste. We’re also able to offer bespoke modifications to their current systems which can speed up packaging times whilst still reducing in-the-box costs.

WLN – How have you changed your offering to customers in the last 12 months and why? Have you added anything new?

This year we launched our new, ergonomic packstation™, which has been a huge success and makes a real difference to packing operations. In addition, our new partnership with Pregis allows us to extend our choice of solutions to offer greater value and long term benefits. New products will be launched during 2017.

WLN – Have you made any enhancements to your customer service?

Yes, and in particular, at the start of the year we introduced a new environmental awareness campaign to underline the significance of the difference that our customers make to the environment by using our 100% recycled paper packaging. We calculated that, through the use of our 100% recycled paper packaging, our customers saved a total of 114,700 new trees from being cut down in 2015. We then issued a certificate to every one of our customers to highlight the number of new trees that they had individually saved during that year.

This is a strong environmental message that our customers could then share with their own customers. The response to this was fantastic and many of them shared this news over social media and online. We will continue to send this important message out annually from now on and our customers will receive their new certificates in January 2017.
WLN – Which markets are your customers in? Which ones are growing fastest?

The versatility of our packaging enables people to pack just about any size or shape of product, making it an ideal solution for any industry. Anyone that sends out goods by mail order or goods in transit is a potential customer. Our customers range from manufacturers of engineered goods through to the fast-growing e-commerce sector, where the variety of products is enormous.

WLN – Can you name some of your major customers and tell us what do you do for them?

As a company which has been trading for almost 25 years, our customer list is very long and varied. Our most recent, published success stories have included Emma Bridgewater, Aston Martin, Wiley Publishing and growing ecommerce brand buysend.com.

WLN – What’s been your most memorable recent project?

Much of our focus this year has been around our new partnership which has led to a number of major operational changes in the business. We’ve invested in new manufacturing staff as well as increasing our warehouse infrastructure, enabling us to increase storage and production capacity to meet the needs of the US market place, along with our own growing European market.

WLN – What were your other major achievements in the last 12 months?

In addition to the major operational changes that have taken place this year, we’ve also signed a number of new distributor agreements in Europe.

WLN – Are you branching into any new areas, targeting new customers and taking on more people?

Yes – our new partnership means that our products are now sold in the US and new distributor agreements will extend our brand into new European markets. To support our growth we’ve increased our headcount across a number of areas including sales, manufacturing and customer services.

WLN – How important is staff development and training to your growth?

It’s very important which is why we continually invest in training for all staff. With the introduction of new products, training has run across production and sales teams, both in the UK and our European offices, along with full product training in the US for the Pregis sales teams.

WLN – Looking ahead, what factors do you see affecting your business? How are you turning these into opportunities?

Our new partnership allows us to expand into new markets over the coming years, and we will continue to integrate new product offerings into our portfolio, allowing us to develop these new markets.

WLN – Which major trade shows and other industry events are you involved in over the next year?

We will continue to exhibit at trade shows in 2017, both in the UK and across Europe. These will be confirmed early in the New Year.

WLN – What headline news from EasyPack can our readers look forward to seeing in Warehouse & Logistics News in 2017?

2017 is another milestone year for Easypack. We will be celebrating 25 years in business, along with the launch of a number of exciting new products. We want to continue to add even greater value to our existing customers and open new doors into additional markets.

WLN – And finally, in our social media age, if you had to sum up your company in a 140-character tweet what would you say?
