With over 30 years’ experience, Flogas Britain Ltd is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of energy solutions for commercial and domestic customers. From the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and mains gas, to cutting-edge renewable technologies, such as biomass systems – we deliver projects and services that are reliable, safe and expertly managed.

Rob-McCord---Head-of-Natinal-Sales,-FlogasFlogas provides cleaner, greener, more cost-effective energy solutions with a turnkey design and installation service tailored to meet our customers’ exact needs.

In August 2015 we launched our commercial mains gas offering, a move which will enable us to bring our vast energy experience and customer service expertise to mains gas business customers for the first time, and save them money on their current gas bills.

In May 2016 we signed a landmark deal with gas distribution company SGN to supply LNG to an independent grid in Scotland – reinforcing Flogas UK as the UK’s leading LNG provider for commercial industrial applications.

Rob McCord, Head of National Sales at Flogas Britain Ltd speaks to Warehouse News about the forthcoming IMHX exhibition.

Warehouse & Logistics News – First of all, Rob, as Head of National Sales, what is your role in the company from day to day?

I’m responsible for driving long term strategic business development across new and existing markets.

WLN – Can you talk us through the different products and services Flogas provides?

Flogas UK supplies LPG (propane and butane) in both cylinder and bulk to commercial, agricultural and industrial customers for industrial applications. We’re the UK’s leading provider of Liquefied Natural Gas, supplying LNG as an energy solution to large industrial businesses and truck fleets. We provide mains gas to businesses across the UK and as well as being the market leader in propane enrichment of biomethane, we can also deliver the highest quality biomass solutions available in the UK.

Our technical services division provides a complete end to end design, installation and maintenance service that allows us to deliver tailor made energy solutions for our customers.

From a logistics and supply chain perspective, we supply LPG in cylinders and bulk for FLT operation, LPG and mains gas for heating and power, and LNG for haulage fleets and large scale applications.

WLN – What kinds of businesses in what industry sectors are your solutions aimed at? What specific needs do they target?

We provide cost effective energy solutions to commercial, agricultural and industrial customers both large and small across a broad range of industry sectors nationwide, to meet their energy needs for power generation, manufacturing processes, heating and FLT operations.

Traditionally our focus has been to support off grid business customers, however the launch of our commercial mains gas product means we can now provide our services to any business anywhere in the UK.

Our customers are always under pressure to drive production efficiency, meet carbon emission targets and save on running costs.

The financial, environmental and operational benefits of LPG are a big draw for industrial applications like warehouses and logistics businesses – and as a result, we’re seeing increasing demand from this sector.

WLN – When was your business established? Who owns the company now? Which other countries do you operate in besides the UK?

Flogas UK was established in 1984. We’re backed by DCC Plc, an international sales, marketing, distribution and business support services group who are a FTSE 100 listed company with an annual turnover of over £11 billion – delivering commercial energy solutions in five other EU countries – Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and France.

WLN – What sets your company apart as a supplier in your sector? Why should busy professionals from the warehouse and logistics industry take time out to visit your stand at IMHX? What is your overall message to visitors?

With over 30 years’ experience we pride ourselves in being industry leading experts in the design and delivery of energy solutions for a wide range of commercial customers.

We have a wealth of case studies and knowledge to share with delegates on how to reduce energy costs and environmental impact, addressing the key energy challenges facing businesses. So come and challenge us with your most difficult energy problems and see how we can help you answer the most pressing energy challenges you’re facing.

WLN -What will visitors be able to see on your stand at this year’s show?

Which of your core products and solutions are you presenting? Are you launching anything new at IMHX?

In previous years we have focused very much on LPG solutions for forklift trucks. This year our focus will be on our ‘Total Energy Solutions’ for both the warehouse and logistics industry and the commercial world in general and we’ll be showcasing our new mains gas product.

WLN – The last IMHX was in 2013. How have your customers’ needs changed since then? What are the biggest pressures your clients face these days? How are you addressing these?

We work very closely with our customers to understand their business processes so that we can deliver a service that best fits their needs. We recognise the pressures our customers face around driving greater efficiency to manage cost and minimising the environmental impact of their operations.

We are working with more and more customers to help them transition from expensive and dirty fuels like oil, to a cleaner, greener and much more cost effective energy source and so help them to make significant reductions on both carbon emissions and running costs.

Additionally, we work closely with our customers to proactively manage their fuel deliveries to make sure we’re playing our part in helping them deliver greater supply chain efficiencies.

LPG-DeliveryWLN – Can you tell us about your major customer contract wins in the last three years? Do these represent new development areas for your company?

Over the last couple of years we have invested heavily in our Liquefied Natural Gas offering, spending millions on a new fleet, a specialist LNG team and dedicated LNG fleet scheduling. We now have the most comprehensive LNG network in the UK, making us the UK’s leading LNG provider for commercial industrial applications.

In May we signed a landmark deal with gas distribution company, SGN, to supply LNG to an independent grid system that serves four Scottish towns lying outside the national gas grid.

The five-year deal, which is the first of its kind, sees Flogas supplying 10,000 tonnes of LNG a year to the system, providing natural gas to Oban and Campbeltown in West Scotland, and Thurso and Wick in the North.

Other recent LNG wins include the implementation of the UK’s largest ever oil to LNG conversion project for dairy nutrition business, Volac.

On the LPG side, wins include oil to LPG conversion projects with the Knockdu and Tomatin whisky distilleries in Scotland; Hilton and Lords of the Manor hotels; dairy production company, Rodda’s and freight forwarding business, Hemisphere Freight. All of these projects have resulted in large cost and carbon emissions savings for our customers

WLN – How do your products and solutions address today’s increased emphasis on safety and environmental impact in warehousing and logistics? Will you be highlighting this aspect of your offering at the show?

Choosing LPG to fuel FLT operations makes absolute sense as it’s a much cheaper, greener and more flexible fuel source. LPG produces less CO2 than diesel and it produces fewer PM10 particles, so won’t leave soot over the products you handle, and more importantly creates a cleaner environment for staff to work in.

WLN – Thanks to technology, suppliers to this industry are getting much faster with their responses to customer enquiries. How soon after IMHX can visitors to your stand expect to receive a ‘live’ quote for using your solutions in their businesses?

As a matter of course one of our senior account managers would follow up any enquiries within 24 hours of the show. We would then aim to visit the customer’s site to discuss their requirements in detail and to conduct a full site survey within 10 days from which we would be able to provide all necessary details and costs.

WLN – And finally, it’s three years to the next IMHX. Where do you see your market sector and your company going in that time?

We can see the move from oil to gas as the fuel of choice (both LPG and LNG) in commercial and industrial sectors accelerate over the next few years because it’s cheaper, a lot cleaner and more flexible. It directly addresses the need for businesses to reduce their environmental footprint and deliver greater operational and cost efficiencies.

Having invested millions in our people, our supply chain and our infrastructure we feel we’re ready to meet that opportunity.
