WLN – As a leading supplier in the Environmental category, what has the last year been like for your business? How about for the rest of your sector?

Over the last year, enquiries for our 100% recycled paper packaging solutions have continued to rise as more retailers and distributors look for long-term sustainable packaging solutions.

We established our business in 1992 because we saw a gap in the market for environmentally friendly packing solutions and we knew that in the coming years, the demand for sustainable packaging was going to increase. As leading suppliers of high quality green packaging solutions, this puts us in a very strong position for future growth.

There’s also been widespread media coverage this year of the effects that discarded plastic and plastic bags are having on the environment. This issue is close to our hearts as we’ve built our business on providing solutions that protect the environment. We use our expertise to show businesses how our 100% recycled, biodegradable packaging is cleaner and more effective than plastic air bags, and the huge difference it can make to the environment and their business.

WLN – What are your best-known products and services?

Easypack manufactures a range of very reliable, in-the-box packaging systems that help customers to pack sustainably, efficiently and cost effectively using 100% recycled, biodegradable and recyclable paper.

All of our products are ergonomically designed with packers in mind so that they can work comfortably and efficiently. Our products undergo rigorous quality testing to ensure that they run continuously and trouble-free, which is vital for our customers.

Our after sales service is second to none, primarily because, as the manufacturer, our customers can deal with us direct and benefit from our expertise. From the moment we install our systems, we are on hand to help our customers at all times and, because we hold large stocks of our recycled paper here in our UK warehouses, there is never a delay in replenishing their stocks.

Our product quality and efficiency, coupled with our UK wide network of customer support staff, means that we can offer a premium, face-to-face service at all times, whether it’s to provide training, preventative maintenance or product consultancy.

WLN – What makes you the first choice supplier in your field?

There are many reasons why Easypack have been so successful but none more so than our understanding of customers needs. Because customers deal with us direct, they benefit from our knowledge and experience and this has helped to educate our customers and provide them with solutions that make a fundamental difference to their business.

As leaders of green, in-the-box void fill and protective packaging, we’re able to easily demonstrate the benefits of high performance 100% recycled paper over less environmentally alternatives such as polystyrene chips, bubble wrap and polythene. We show our customers how they can securely and strategically protect all their products in order to pack faster, save space and reduce their costs, with reliable systems that won’t let them down.

WLN – What changes have you made to your core offering in the last year?

Continuous improvement is a core part of our business and this year we’ve made some major improvements across the business that will enable us to maintain our high levels of customer service and meet our growth plans.

As part of our continuous improvement programme, we undertook a full evaluation of our core offerings and business processes. In line with the outcome of this we launched a new brand identity.

Underpinning this are our new brand pillars and new strapline: Innovative, Green, Packaging. These three key areas were identified as our primary strengths and through each of these we will continue to deliver innovative solutions that will enable more customers to pack goods of all types sustainably.

Our new branding and the principles that we have set out have been embraced by the entire group and will help us to achieve our vision of becoming Europe’s leading manufacturer of environmentally friendly cushion packaging solutions.

WLN – What new products and services have you introduced?

We are proud to have launched two exciting new products this year; freestyle™ and packstation™.

Freestyle™ was launched in September and is our first flexible, multi-purpose packaging system. The system is small and highly versatile making it easy to place at any point of packing. The system delivers strong sheets of 100% recycled, recyclable and biodegradable paper at speeds of up to 55m per minute, allowing packers to wrap, roll, mould, void-fill, cushion and secure goods of all shapes and sizes.

We also launched our first packstation™ this year which has been ergonomically designed to allow packers to pack quickly and efficiently in an organised environment.

With a single or double work surface option, packstation™ can also be seamlessly integrated with a number of our other packaging systems, as well as a wide range of useful accessories.

Easypack-IGP-Logo[5]WLN – What industries are your customers in?

The versatility of our packaging enables people to pack just about any size or shape of product, which makes it an ideal solution for any industry. Anyone sending goods out by mail order or goods in transit is a potential customer. Our customers range from manufacturers of engineered goods to retail and distribution centres, where the variety of products is enormous.

The strength and durability of our 100% recycled paper allows customers to securely pack delicate glassware or china as well as books, IT hardware, furniture, heavy engineered goods and so on, and with the online retail sector still on the rise, this trend is set to continue for the long term.

WLN – How do your products and services help customers become more efficient, greener or work safer?

Sustainability is more important than ever for today’s brands because consumers have a choice and a voice. Switching to a sustainable source of packaging is not only good for the environment, it’s good for their brand image and sales.

The ergonomic design of all our products means they are simple to use, easy to operate, safe and reliable. Standard features such as adjustable working heights, automatic paper loading and a product that gives you the freedom to pack in many different ways, offers full operational comfort. Our machines also allow packers to keep pace with fast moving packing lines or simply use on-demand, as required. Our product trainers ensure that our machines are used correctly, as well as teaching packing techniques that will allow them to get the most from their system.

WLN – Is there a recent or current project that stands out as a showcase for your company? Can you tell us about it?

Last year we invested in a third state-ofthe- art warehouse, DC3. We are pleased to say that this is now fully operational and allows us to distribute our 100% recycled paper right across the UK and Europe.

Further investment is also being made in logistics, warehousing operations and customer care.

WLN – What were your company’s biggest achievements in the last 12 months?

The last year has certainly been our most successful and during this time we have made a number of key changes. Our rebrand is a celebration of a significant milestone for the business as we approach our 25th year of trading. In addition to this we continue to restructure our business development function and have recruited additional staff across the UK to support our growing customer base.

Finally the launch of two new products is another great achievement for our product development team and for the business.

Product innovation is central to our ongoing success and allows us to offer our customers new ways to pack sustainably.

WLN – What are the major issues facing the Environmental category as we go forward? How is your company addressing them?

As a company that’s passionate about protecting the environment, we are committed to helping as many businesses as we can to address the issues surrounding the use of plastics and pollutants in packaging and the impact that discarded man-made packaging materials are having on the environment.

We have produced a fact sheet on this which is helping to educate people about the issues and the benefits of using our nonpolluting products. This is available to download from our website.

WLN – Will you be exhibiting at any major trade shows in the coming year?

This year we exhibited at 15 shows across Europe and expect to do a similar number next year. Trade shows are a great way for us to catch up with our customers and demonstrate our products to visitors for the first time. People love trying the products out for themselves and once they see how simple and effective they are, they quickly see how they can fit in to their operations.

We had some great reviews this year, particularly as we showcased our new branding for the first time and launched two brand new products. Next year looks set to be even bigger and we will be listing all events on our website.

WLN – What other big news from Easypack can our readers look forward to reading in Warehouse & Logistics News in 2016?

With internet retailing still on the rise we will continue to introduce innovative new products to help businesses pack sustainably. Along with a number of next generation systems due for launch next year, we will also be introducing new paper mediums and showing more new ways to pack efficiently.

Further investments will be made next year in our warehouse management systems as well as a number of new green initiatives that will add further value to our customers and help to build our reputation as leaders in the environmental packaging category.
