WLN – What are your best-known products and services?

We have traditionally been known for our Slotted Angle construction system, upon which the company was originally founded, however times have changed and whilst our heritage is still significant to us, Dexion is always evolving to meet our customers changing needs, to ensure we always provide the right solution. We now manufacture pallet racking systems, versatile shelving systems and a range of storage machines, making us one of the few providers who are able to offer a combination of all three systems.

We endeavour to make a positive contribution to a customer’s operations through a consultative approach when designing systems and storage layouts, realising improvements for their future business.

WLN – What makes you the first choice supplier in your field?

We pride ourselves on being the most experienced providers of storage systems. Our experienced design engineers work in partnership with end users to design fit- for- purpose solutions. Customers who experience our service frequently return to experience the same time and time again. This is because we take the time to understand their needs and translate them into a solution that works.

WLN – What changes have you made to your core offering in the last year?

We continually review our product offering and analyse key trends within sectors. During 2014 we launched an extensive new range of Pallet Racking products, known as P90. This range extension brought new beam sizes and strengths to market, affording us more design capability, offering wider variety of options for warehouse storage and providing our customers with the most cost effective solution.

WLN – What new products and services have you introduced?

We are constantly adding new accessories and developing new products within our ranges. Interestingly over the past year we have seen an increased interest in semiautomated solutions such as mobile pallet racking and pallet shuttle systems. These systems increase storage by densely packing palletised goods which eases the problem of increasing costs for warehouse space.

Having said that we have recently introduced an improved, pre-galvanised, light duty cantilever system, a range of medium duty cantilever racking and a wide range of single bay shelving systems ideal for small and medium enterprises (SME’s). Our mezzanine floor offering has also been expanded with a selection of handrails and stairs, all made in-house by us, along with a see-saw pallet gate for safely receiving goods on a mezzanine floor.

WLN – What industries are your customers in?

We pride ourselves on facilitating the needs of customers across a wide range of industries including food – chilled and ambient, retail, pharmaceutical, automotive, archive, manufacturing, shipping and eCommerce. Whether they store and sell items on pallets, in boxes, clothes on hangers or loose items such as exhausts in the automotive industry, we have designed systems to store it all.

WLN – How do your products and services help customers become more efficient, greener or work safer?

A number of our semi-automatic products allow for the denser storage of pallets and goods, saving in some cases up to or more than 50% of the space used by traditional storage systems, resulting in a warehouse that can be either smaller in size or more efficient to store more goods. This also leads to savings on resources such as electricity, manpower and handling equipment.

Some of our storage systems can even offer increased accuracy and picking speeds over traditional storage methods while reducing employee fatigue, which we are acutely aware of improving.

WLN – Can you tell us about some of your customers and the work you do for them?

We undertake work for some of the major 3PL companies whose requirements are far reaching. These extend from simple wideaisle adjustable pallet racking all the way through to complex multi-tier structures that include the integration of lighting and sprinkler systems, mezzanine floors, walkways, conveyors and other building facilities.

We are a systems integrator, if you like!

WLN – Is there a recent or current project that stands out as a showcase for your company? Can you tell us about it?

There are many projects that we have completed over the last year, some for wellknown household names, but one name stands out, that being Rolls Royce. We supplied a large pallet racking system with various accessories for their new parts and finishing warehouse located in Bognor Regis.

WLN – What were your company’s biggest achievements in the last 12 months?

Our biggest achievement in the UK is realising growth over the past year, having restructured our business over the last two years during the economic downturn. Now the market conditions are improving we are seeing the benefits of the new structure and realising the potential this brings.

WLN – Are you currently investing in the business, taking on staff or going into new markets or countries? If so, how’s it going?

To help us achieve our ambitious business growth, over the last year or so we have recruited a number of key employees in design, marketing and technical support and plan to take on more senior engineers and support staff during 2016.

We also work with a national network of distributors who not only sell Dexion products but offer service contracts and provide a support network for customers. In 2016 we are looking to strengthen this network and increase the knowledge base within it.

WLN – What are you doing to bring on new talent and raise skills levels in your company?

We are investing in training and developing internal training courses for our distributors.

WLN – What are the major issues facing the Storage Solutions category as we go forward? How is your company addressing them?

Pressures such as the ever increasing cost of land and resources are a constant issue for any company that stores products, whilst the ever growing demands of customers to have goods delivered the same day is putting pressure on e-commerce companies to be efficient.

A number of our systems help to address these issues by reducing the space required for storage and improving picking speeds and accuracy.

WLN – Will you be exhibiting at any major trade shows in the coming year?

We don’t plan to be at IMHX or any other trade show in 2016. We would rather invest in activities and training events, which include our participation within the Warehouse Technology Group where our products are permanently displayed in a real-life environment.

The Warehouse Technology Group (WTG), in Manchester, is a working warehouse that also acts as a showroom for a number of manufacturers’ products, from floor markings to LED lighting and any item in between that a warehouse might need to function. (More info at www.wtglive.com)

If any potential customer wants to see how our products work we are more than happy to take them to the WTG or existing customer sites, either here in the UK or further afield in Europe. Here they will be able to see our products in situ and have the opportunity to discuss with existing users the benefits such systems can bring to their business.

Dexion-logoWLN – What other big news from Dexion can our readers look forward to reading in Warehouse & Logistics News in 2016?

We are excited about our key account and our distributors’ plans for 2016 and we look forward to working with them on their projects. We will continue to develop our products and add new options or systems to the range to ensure our distributors remain fully supported and we retain a leading position with the industry. We hope to share more news about some of these products soon in Warehouse & Logistics News.
