Permaban, well known for its armoured joints for warehouse floors, is now also supplying Rocland floor surface hardeners in the UK.

Completed-floor-2[8]

Surface hardeners are applied to the top of fresh concrete during the floor’s construction. Applied as either a “wet-on-wet” slurry, or a “dry-on-wet” power (also known as a dry-shake), they create a protective layer on top of the concrete. This provides an attractive finish which also resists impact and abrasion.

Specifying surface hardeners can bring numerous benefits for warehouse owners and operators.

Firstly, the floor’s surface is more durable and less prone to damage, reducing the need for costly and disruptive floor repairs.

Secondly, the floor is easier to clean and more resistant to chemicals and spillages, and so will keep its appearance much longer.

Thirdly, many surface hardeners are light-reflective, which can reduce the lighting requirements in the warehouse and thus the electricity bills.

The special Rocland production method helps contractors to create an exceptionally flat floor – good news for warehouse operators, where small variances in the floor’s surface can have a huge impact on the operational efficiency of MHE.

Completed-floor-1[7]

Although new in the UK, Rocland surface hardeners have been used for high-profile clients around the world, including Honda, Airbus, Caterpillar and Walmart.

“For warehouse owners who want to reduce their long-term costs, it makes sense to protect a new floor from the start,” commented Tom Hancock, Permaban’s UK Sales Manager. “Permaban joints and Rocland surface hardeners work in tandem to protect the vulnerable elements of the floor, so this is a very natural partnership. The response from the market has been extremely positive.”

Available in 16 standard colours, a Rocland specification provides ample scope for creativity – for example, to match branding, or to ‘zone’ the floor. Bespoke colours can also be blended.

The range contains seven formulations, including world-renowned brands Qualidur and Qualitop. The choice depends on how much heavy treatment the afloor is likely to receive during its lifetime.

Rocland and Permaban are sister companies, both part of the Flooring Products division of RCR Industrial Flooring. The companies co-exhibited for the first time at the 2014 UK Concrete Show.
