Union Industries, the UK market leader manufacturer of industrial rapid roll doors, has helped waste management company John Pointon & Sons Ltd enhance its facilities with the installation of a new, very large Ramdoor Super at the site.

The Cheddleton-based, animal by-product and food waste solutions company has installed the new Ramdoor Super in its warehouse, joining a number of other Union Industries installations on site.

John Pointon & Sons Ltd has provided animal by-product solutions since 1958. Originally providing transportation for butchers waste, the company has grown to become the largest single site rendering and recycling company in the UK. The evolution of the Pointon site over recent years has seen the introduction of facilities catered towards cost effective food waste disposal.

With more than 20 Union doors already in operation on Pointon’s site to help maintain hygiene standards and contain odours, the most recent addition has been installed to replace a Union competitor’s door which failed after only 18 months!

The new Ramdoor Super, with a bespoke grey coloured blade to blend in with countryside surroundings, stands at 8.7m wide x 5.6m high. It comes with extra-deep side guides, 2-ply ‘Ramhide’ door blade material and heavy duty double 6” wind-bar systems on both face and reverse sides, so is able to withstand very high wind pressures.

The Ramdoor Super has a fast operating speed, opening fully in a matter of seconds with automatic close as standard. It offers efficiency, security and, in keeping with all other Union Industries doors, extreme reliability -unlike the existing door it replaced, which was an imported door installed as part of a project by a contractor. This inferior quality door proved to be extremely unreliable and suffered regular impact damage, and so had to be replaced in the end by the superior Union product.

Also in common with other doors in the range, the Ramdoor Super features Union’s highly-regarded ‘Crash-Out’ damage protection facility, which ensures the door remains operable if the heavy duty steel composite bottom beam is hit by a vehicle.

Union-LogoBarney Williams, Technical Director at John Pointon & Sons Ltd, said: “We have always been very impressed with Union Industries’ doors, hence why we have so many on site, so naturally it made sense to turn to Union again when the alternative manufacturers’ door began to fail.

“With our site hosting more than half a million tonnes of animal by-products and food waste every year, it is imperative we have reliable doors which can perform with high frequency and maintain environmental standards. For these reasons, we went to Union Industries.”

Neil Irwin, Technical Sales Engineer at Union Industries, said: “Our clients have various issues and requirements which our fast acting doors can address. This latest installation is indicative of the on-going performance of our doors, even in tough, harsh and industrially demanding applications such as at Pointon’s.”
