PowerCell and MPS announce new joint venture to create UK’s most comprehensive network.

Derek-3Industrial battery specialist PowerCell has announced it has acquired a 50% stake in Sheffield-based firm Motive Power Services (MPS) as part of its nationwide expansion programme, enhancing its sales and service capability into Lincolnshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire, the North East and Scotland.

At the same time the company has recruited two new sales professionals to cover areas in the North West, South West, South Wales and Midlands.

Neal Thorp joins PowerCell as a highly experienced industrial battery specialist, whilst their other new recruit, Nik Bridger, brings a strong background in sales within the forklift truck sector. Both relish the chance to take PowerCell forward into new regions and new markets, as the company continues its recession-breaking growth story.

Already one of the top three providers of industrial battery products to the materials handling market, PowerCell has achieved an average growth of 24% per annum over the past five years, and this latest venture is designed to maintain that momentum.

Derek Anderson, Managing Director of PowerCell, explains their latest acquisition: “We’ve been working with MPS for the last few years. They’ve been in business for more than 20 years and have a team of highly experienced engineers.

“They’re a successful and established firm and share a similar ethos to ourselves: putting the customer first by delivering the most appropriate, cost-effective solutions and truly excellent after-sales service. We continue to grow because we do exactly what we say we will…

“We also invest in our people, our equipment and our customer service support systems to ensure we provide the level of support that our customers need to remain competitive and in complete control of their costs.”

Nik Bridger, one of PowerCell’s new Area Sales Managers, will use his forklift truck experience to take the company forward into the South West, South Wales and the Midlands.

We asked him what really stands out about PowerCell: “They’re a really forward-looking company who organise everything to suit the specific requests of the customer. We don’t just sell batteries: we sell the right battery, the right charger, the most cost-effective solution.”

Engineer-working-on-batteryMD Derek Anderson continues: “We pride ourselves on working with dealers, manufacturers and end-users to ascertain the exact specifications of the equipment and the precise demands of the application – including what workloads they place on that equipment, what charging schedules they anticipate running and what service support they require.

“Our aim is to help our clients achieve the best outcome, not just on the initial investment, but in the longer term by cutting their energy bills, establishing the most appropriate maintenance regimes, maximising the life of their batteries, and keeping their operations running at optimum efficiency.

“The formation of this joint venture company and our recruitment of experienced sales staff are further examples of our drive to deliver national strength and local knowledge.”
