When it comes to the safe operation of a forklift truck, training is the number one priority. It is essential that all operators are equipped with the knowledge to safely transport goods, as well as remain aware of the surrounding environment in which they operate. The ability to safely refuel forklifts however is an area of training often neglected, but which operators must take into account. And with professionally accredited training from Calor, users of LPG can have a cleaner, quieter, highly efficient, but most importantly safe forklift truck operation.
Calor Gas, the UK’s leading supplier of LPG for forklift trucks, is at the forefront of customer safety with a dedicated safe refuelling training programme for all customers. As an RTITB* accredited provider of training, Calor offers customers assurance that they will be trained in every aspect of safe LPG re-fuelling. Calor’s training programme includes safe refuelling and manual handling of cylinders, as well as an explanation of how Calor’s unique cylinder features contribute to safe and efficient operations. This training is available to all new Calor forklift customers free of charge.
Phil Anderson, Calor’s forklift truck training manager says, “The training that Calor offers to its LPG FLT customers provides not just great added value but also ensures that those being trained understand and can demonstrate ‘best practice’ in safely handling and use of LPG”.
As part of the training offered by Calor, manual cylinder handling and safe LPG refuelling, whether by bulk tank or cylinder, are covered in great detail to ensure a thorough understanding of modern practices. Key safety features, integral to Calor’s cylinders are explained. These include the pressure relief valve which reduces the pressure in the cylinder if exposed to excessive heat and the excess flow valve which is responsible for closing the cylinder valve if too much LPG is being drawn from the cylinder.
Some cleverly designed cylinder features are also demonstrated, including the internal ‘memory plastic’ dip tubs. Being plastic, it helps reduce the risk of corrosion and fracture when compared to traditional steel tubes. In addition, Magnatract® technology eliminates the risk of loose particles within the cylinder from entering the forklift engine which could potentially cause poor running or even engine damage.
Calor is also acting to raise general awareness, not just of LPG safety which constitutes a very small number of forklift related accidents, but of forklift safety in general, through sponsorship of RTITB’s Operator of the Year competition, showing commitment to safety in the workplace and recognise excellence within the industry.
