Over the summer holidays, the LaSalle¹s Business Space Asset Management team went to Tottenham to volunteer for Living Under One Sun (LUOS), a local volunteer-run community organisation with no-core funding. One of the elements of LUOS’s multi-award winning community project is to find neglected land and turn it into a place to grow food and create new leaders within the community.

The main project site and the location for all training is at Community Allotment, created from derelict land in Tottenham Hale. It was in need of upkeep and suffered from limited funding. This project will not only enable residents to grow and learn about local produce and healthy eating but also educate them on wild life, sustainability, recycling, biodiversity and bee keeping.

The 16-strong LaSalle team went along to dig, weed and clear up the allotment working with LUOS’s regular volunteers. After several hours of hard, ‘back tweaking’ work, the allotment was back to a manageable condition allowing LUOS’s volunteers to continue crop rotation and educating the community.

The team experienced true British weather with ‘4 seasons in a day’ but worked hard to complete the task and were pleased that their efforts both assisted and inspired the LUOS team and their volunteers. In fact, they had such a great time that they will be going back in the near future.
