Toyota’s half prepared used trucks continue to grab visitors’ attention during this year’s regional show tour.

showAfter a number of successful appearances in 2012, the Toyota ‘before and after trucks’ are once again taking to the road this Summer, with appearances at regional and national events across the UK.

The initial 2.5 tonne diesel counterbalance forklift truck was developed in 2012 as a live example of the exceptional quality available from Toyota’s used truck fleet and the high standard of finish available from the preparation process. Successful from the feedback in 2012, has led to the development of a second truck to ensure each regional event’s truck display is complimented by the attention grabbing exhibit.

Each ’50/50′ truck, including the latest 1.6 tonne gas counterbalance forklift truck, are ex-rental hire trucks which have been returned to Toyota after a standard five year rental contract. Half of each truck has been inspected and prepared to ‘Gold’ standard and the other half has been left as it was when returned, illustrating the changes that take place to prepare a truck for second life.

All ex-rental trucks are fully renovated and prepared at dedicated UK fleet management centre in Old Dalby, Leicestershire. Specialist engineers carry out multi-point checks of all major components to ensure each truck meets stringent quality standards. It is then graded and prepared to one of three finish levels, Silver, Gold or Platinum.

Tony Wallis, Sales and Marketing Director, Toyota Material Handling UK comments: “Every used truck which has potential to become part of our second life programme goes through a stringent checking process. The workshop at Old Dalby operates in accordance to the Toyota Production System (TPS), where inspections take place continually throughout the preparation process, ensuring that quality is built in at every stage of the process.”

Wallis adds: “We decided that the best way to show the excellent standard of Toyota used equipment was to show how they return and how well they can be prepared for a second or even third life. This is particularly true for our counterbalance engine-powered forklift range, which are all fitted with industrial engines, proven for longer truck life. When people see the 50/50 truck they get to see the possibilities of a used truck first hand. Now on our second show season with these trucks, they still generate a lot of public interest.”
