Toyota Material Handling UK brought awareness to the fantastic opportunities for young adults to develop a career with Toyota and gain a specialist forklift truck qualification (IMI VCQ Level 2 & 3),on a work based placement. The careers stand at IMHX 2013 was situated in the dedicated apprentice zone at the exhibition. The stand was managed by Ken Williams, Technical Training Officer who has over twenty five years of experience with Toyota and mentors forklift truck service technicians at Toyota.

A work based apprenticeship with Toyota has the beneficial balance between hands-on practical training and classroom study at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College. The apprentice’s study at college is in two week blocks five times a year. Toyota is also able to offer the opportunity to work alongside experienced team members and develop specific skills related to the qualification.

Ken Williams, Technical Training Officer comments, “The stand was a great opportunity to talk to young adults about the benefits of an apprenticeship with Toyota”. Ken adds, “The people who visited the stand were really enthusiastic and pleased that a huge global organisation can offer such an opportunity, many visited with parents and saw a real opportunity to develop their career”.

The careers stand enabled one-to-one discussions with a variety of people who were interested in pursuing a career with Toyota. Visitors then had the chance to visit the main Toyota stand, to meet members of the team, view Toyota Material Handling’s product range and watch live demonstrations.
