A halving of unpacking time, a doubling of productivity and huge reduction in health and safety issues are the main benefits that Minky Homecare says it has seen since it acquired CESAB forklifts for use at its Rochdale distribution sites.
The household cleaning and laundry product specialist has five distribution, manufacturing and storage centres in the North West and frequently deals with bespoke loads for its supermarket customers. It turned to exclusive CESAB dealership Rack-N-Stak in Leyland, Lancashire when its existing material handling equipment was proving inefficient at handling individual 70kg display boxes.
Tony Close, head of supply chain and logistics at Minky: “We needed to move these display boxes, which held outdoor airers for a major supermarket customer, quickly and carefully. Operators were struggling with pallet trucks and standard counterbalanced forklifts, finding it hard to avoid damaging the product.
“The prospect of introducing larger materials handling equipment into our distribution centre was worrying, as internal spaces are restricted, with low ceilings in some areas. We spoke to Rack-N-Stak and they suggested CESAB Drago forklifts, fitted with a clamp application with two blades that could hold the container without causing any damage to the load.
“We started off with one CESAB truck and this proved to be unbelievably successful so we bought another. Loads were unpacked in half the previous time, productivity was more than doubled and any health and safety issues and damage to packaging associated with previous equipment were completely reduced. It is fair to say we’ve been delighted with the switch to CESAB.”
The CESAB trucks, which are made in ISO 14001 certified European factories using TPS*, one of the world’s most efficient manufacturing systems, also handle Minky’s ironing board products on bespoke heavy metal racks.
