Warehouse and Logistics News spoke to Adrian Russell, managing director of Pall-Ex, to find out more about the year ahead.

2012 was a pivotal year for Pall-Ex and that momentum is certainly set to continue and gather pace over the next 12 months. 2012 saw some major success stories for us, not least, launching the first ever pallet network in Eastern Europe in the form of Pall-Ex Romania. Our other European networks in Italy and the Iberian Peninsula have also gone from strength-to-strength, having grown in terms of member numbers and pallet volumes.

European expansion is at the forefront of all of our minds, particularly in the first quarter of this year as we prepare for the imminent launches of both Pall-Ex France and Pall-Ex Polska.

Operations in France will help create that direct link between our UK network and the others in mainland Europe. Membership recruitment for Pall-Ex France is going exceptionally well and we will have some leading names in French logistics coming on board when we launch.

Our Polish network is an equally important addition to the Pall-Ex Group, providing our second ‘last-mile’ network in Eastern Europe. With investment and infrastructural development continuing to improve at a rapid pace, Poland is set to become a major logistical gateway.

We are also in talks with logistics providers in a number of other European destinations, this only goes to show how committed we are to having 15 active European networks by 2015.

Despite major European success, Pall-Ex has never lost site of the domestic market and opportunities for growth at home too, and I think this has been one of the major factors behind our success.

2012 saw Pall-Ex launch a new 40,000 sq ft northern hub in Carlisle and develop a dedicated European service for UK members and customers. A major service improvement point for us has been to increase member numbers, in order to enhance delivery performance by reducing delivery areas, thereby increasing delivery density.

Domestic operations will be equally as fast paced and progressive in 2013. Pall-Ex is aiming to introduce a wider breadth of services via our UK haulier membership, to complement existing offerings such as Retail Plus+ and packaging recycling service, Eco-Drive. Announcements relating to UK service development are due to be made in the coming months.
