Briggs Equipment has secured a contract with one of Northern Ireland’s leading builders merchants, Haldane Fisher, to more than double the company’s fleet of Irion sideloader trucks, and to maintain them for at least the next seven years.

Briggs is supplying five new sideloaders, having taken over former competitor Barloworld Handling’s relationship with Haldane Fisher when it acquired Barloworld earlier this year. Haldane Fisher’s materials handling fleet had been supported by Barloworld for more than two decades, with a strong focus on service. Its maintenance team at Newtownabbey, County Antrim, achieved a first time fix rate of 95 per cent.

Transport manager at Haldane Fisher, Colin Morrison says: “They’re the best sideloaders we’ve had in the time I’ve been with the company. And we are confident that Briggs Equipment, and its team in Newtownabbey, will be working hard with us on the servicing and maintenance aspect of the deal as we continue to grow our business over the coming years.”

The sideloaders will be employed to handle awkward and heavy loads such as roof trusses, timber, and building materials, at Haldane Fisher’s headquarters in Newry, County Down. In addition to moving materials around the Haldane Fisher yard, the trucks will also load products onto trailers for delivery to customers around the country.

In the event that a part is unavailable or a truck cannot be fixed within 24 hours, Briggs is able to supply standby trucks from its extensive short term hire fleet – also based at the company’s regional support centre in County Antrim.

Briggs’ Northern Ireland Sales Manager, Colin McNeely, says: “Our mobile service technicians are on site at Haldane Fisher each day, ensuring that the sideloaders and forklifts on the site are performing to the required standard.”

Haldane Fisher operates 23 pieces of materials handling equipment in total. Each of the new trucks will be in use for around 2,000 hours per year.

Briggs is the national distributor of Hyster and Yale forklifts throughout the UK and additionally supplies specialist equipment such as sideloaders, The company offers a comprehensive product range designed to handle practically any load including long and awkward products such as timber and metal.

The durable construction of every Irion sideloader means the trucks are ideally suited to handling long loads outside, inside, on uneven ground and on gradients, where performance, reliability and operator comfort are of particular importance. Briggs service engineers provide regular planned maintenance of all equipment in the fleet to ensure high productivity and reliable operation.
