If you’re looking to improve your working habits, the FLTA’s 10th National Fork Lift Truck Safety Conference, supported by Warehouse & Logistics News, takes place at Warwick University on Wednesday 26th September, coinciding with National Forklift Safety Week. As the Conference’s official media partner, with this issue we are publishing a bound-in supplement for the event, looking at fork truck safety, good warehouse practice and other aspects of safety in the warehouse and logistics environment.

In our scheduled features we look at Order Picking, taking in Pickers, pick to light, voice picking, and Power Sources, covering all aspects of motive power in the warehouse and logistics environment, including batteries, LPG and engines. Also in this issue we have interviews with CI Logistics, Gem Logistics and Tuffscreen.

CI Logistics, a major exhibitor at this month’s Totally Logistics North Show, has been celebrating 30 years in the materials handling and storage systems business by winning over £5m of new contracts between January and July, including an assignment for Welsh Slate and further expansion of Clipper Logistics’ UK DC.

Gem Logistics, the distribution operation of Gem, the home entertainment and consumer products distributor, is rapidly establishing a reputation as an outsourced warehousing and logistics service provider to retailers, resellers and other businesses from their state of the art £15m DC at Raunds, Northants, with Amazon, Argos, M&S, Tesco, Comet, DSG, and Weetabix among their growing client list.

Tuffscreen screen impact protectors from Tuffscreen Screen Protection Ltd are an innovative retrofitted screen protection system for industrial electronic devices, compatible with all devices including those with touch-screen data inputs. A low cost solution to a potentially expensive problem, Tuffscreens are suitable for all display screens on handheld and vehicle- or truck-mounted devices due to the anti-glare properties.

Finally as we went to press, we heard that Dennis Pickering, the long-standing Marketing Manager at TVH UK, passed away on Saturday 25th August. As reported in this issue Dennis was instrumental in building TVH’s UK operation into a multi-million pound turnover business. Dennis was very well respected by all his colleagues and extremely well liked within the warehousing and logistics industry, and will be sorely missed as a rare commodity in an age of grey, corporate suits.
