Voyager 1400g protects scanning investment with flexible software licensing solution for future upgrades.

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has announced the introduction of the Voyager® 1400g, a hand-held barcode scanner with the ability to read virtually any barcode for enhanced employee productivity. Building on the legacy of the Voyager family of scanners, the 1400g provides omnidirectional scanning of linear barcodes at speeds comparable to laser-based scanners. Offering a flexible licensing scheme, the Voyager 1400g can be easily upgraded to read PDF417 and other 2D barcodes from both paper and mobile phone screens – at the time of purchase or later in the field.

“The flexible Voyager 1400g is uniquely designed to grow with our customers, eliminating the need to purchase new scanners as scanning requirements evolve,” said Taylor Smith, director of product management, Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “Offering comparable pricing to linear scanners and far greater functionality, any enterprise looking to purchase a linear barcode scanner should reconsider their selection and take a look at the Voyager 1400g.”

2D barcodes have become increasingly popular in recent years, as they allow larger amounts of data to be stored in smaller spaces. Given their increasing popularity, many enterprises are now facing the impending need to read 2D barcodes because of government regulations and supplier mandates. Other enterprises wish to leverage 2D scanning technology to enable emerging applications, such as age verification and mobile couponing.

While linear scanners are an ideal solution for certain applications, they generally do not provide the technology needed to scan PDF417 and other 2D barcodes. As purchasing departments continue to place a greater emphasis on return on investment, enterprises need to choose scanning solutions that deliver superior longevity. The versatile and attractively-priced Voyager 1400g allows enterprises to meet current and future scanning needs with a single device, lowering the total cost of ownership.

Designed for both hands-free and hand-held scanning, the Voyager 1400g drives improved end user productivity and customer satisfaction. Its reliable design reduces failure rates and minimizes employee downtime. Users can manage deployed scanners from a single location with Honeywell’s Remote MasterMind® device management software, reducing support and labor costs.

“While many of our customers are aware of the prevalence of 2D barcodes in various industries, most are unwilling to pay for functionality that isn’t needed at the moment,” said Johan Hemström, managing director of Origum Distribution AB. “The Voyager 1400g allows our customers to make a smart investment that is future-proof.”

The Voyager 1400g will begin shipping this month.
