Barloworld Handling has announced a further investment of £3million in 150 new Hyster forklift trucks for its short term hire fleet. This includes over 100 fuel-efficient Hyster Fortens lift trucks and 30 Hyster electric warehousing trucks.

Barloworld has now invested some £6million over the last 12 months in its national short term hire fleet, which is one of the largest in the UK. Recently the company has seen strong demand across all sectors of industry from customers looking to supplement their core forklift fleet with additional units at peak times.

Mark Ward, UK commercial asset manager for Barloworld Handling comments: “We have seen steady growth in our short term hire business requiring a further investment to increase stock levels and ensure customers continue to have access to the widest range of materials handling equipment.”

The company claims its ability to supply an extensive range of equipment nationally, suitable for all types of industry, is unmatched in the UK. Equipment ranges from electric warehouse equipment such as powered pallet trucks, low level order pickers and high level reach trucks to a full range of counterbalance trucks ranging from 1.5 to 18 tonne as well as other Hyster big trucks suitable for port operations and heavy industry.

“On-going investment ensures the age profile and condition of our short term hire fleet is one of the best in the industry,” adds Mark. “We continue to see increasing fleet utilisation across our 17 regional short term hire centres which are equipped to serve local businesses on a daily, weekly, monthly or annual basis.”

The profile and condition of its fleet, supported by great service, is a key reason Barloworld continues to stand out in the short term hire market. Barloworld stocks specialist equipment such as sideloaders, articulated trucks, access platforms, sweepers and ATEX compliant ‘Pyroban’ protected equipment. The equipment can also be tailored with attachments, such as clamps, hooks and jibs, to suit specialist applications.

“We help businesses save money and operate more effectively with smaller core fleets which draw on short term hire units to cover seasonal peaks,” adds Mark. “To do this effectively requires a strong partner such as Barloworld that can supply a complete range of reliable quality equipment at short notice on flexible contracts.”

All short term hire trucks supplied by Barloworld are LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) certified and maintained by its national team of technicians, who respond quickly in the event of breakdown.
