PWS upgrade real time solution across their Newton Aycliffe based warehouse operation. The fully integrated solution combines leading Warehouse Management Software by Proteus with Belgravium’s Boston 8500 and Monaco 7100 RF terminals to maximise operational efficiency across the full spectrum of warehouse activities.

PWS Distributors Limited is a family owned private company which started life as a small architectural ironmongery business over one hundred years ago. Through the adoption of modern business practices, including Radio Data Capture within the warehouse facility, the company has grown to become the leading supplier of kitchen cabinet doors and other related components to the kitchen furniture industry.

Maintaining Operational Efficiency

PWS were looking to upgrade their existing system and secure additional efficiency and operational gains. A thorough tender process for the upgrade of the warehouse operation was undertaken and the hardware and software offerings of a multitude of vendors were evaluated. The final selection was based upon the WMS of Birmingham based Proteus software, combined with the “Rugged by Design”, Boston 8500 handhelds and Monaco 7100 truck mount RF terminals from Belgravium, as offering the best “closeness of fit”.

Proteus upgraded warehouse management software will provide PWS with a higher level of flexibility in operation and powerful reporting and enquiry capabilities that generate predictive and concise information. The solution will provide PWS the ability to know where stock is, when it’s required, and what to do to move it correctly in the shortest time. The system will ensure that stock touches the warehouse for the minimum time possible, and that everyone within the information chain is instructed and informed immediately.

The upgraded business processes will make optimum use of the latest generation in Belgravium IT technology. The solution will see PWS continue their successful business relationship with Belgravium which has seen them fulfilling their mobile computing requirements for over 12 years.  Utilising a real time network and the Boston 8500 handheld and Monaco 7100 vehicle mounted terminals, the solution will become an integral part of the goods in, bulk stores and pick face replenishment operations to secure fast, reliable and accurate data capture for increased traceability.

Kevin Gay, IT Manager at PWS comments, “We’re proud of the efficient way in which our warehouse operates. The additional capabilities will provide us with even more control and transparency of our operation which in turn will continue to drive our commitment to delivering a truly first class service and product to our customer base.”
