Established in 1979, I J McGill has steadily progressed through the ups and downs of varying economic climates to become the successful transport, storage, pallet distribution and networking company that it is today.

The company currently employs around a hundred people at its Keynsham, Bristol depot and operates a fleet of over 40 vehicles. As a Bristol based member of Palletline, the UK premium pallet network, they offer reliable and cost effective next day pallet collections and deliveries from any collection point to any delivery point within the UK. Their extensive customer base and 24/7 warehousing and storage operation also enables them to route vehicles to destinations throughout the UK on a daily basis at very competitive rates.

As part of the market leading Palletline network, McGills utilise innovative scanning technology to optimise their freight scanning process. Ian McGill, Managing Director of I J McGill comments, “The I J McGill vision is to innovate and partner solutions which strengthen our client’s position in the market place, to ensure we excel our customers’ expectations”. The solution, developed by Palletline in conjunction with leading mobile computing solution providers Belgravium, utilises the Boston 8500 handheld terminal to combine scanning and image capture for an optimised the freight scanning process, increasing speed, visibility as well as well as automating the claims procedure.

McGills continually ensure that their clients are able to take advantage of a fully computerised POD and tracking system. As part of this philosophy, they recently had a requirement to extend the use of Barcode and RF scanning technology throughout the warehouse, to ensure a full audit trail of all transient and deep storage freight. Having secured numerous tangible benefits from the existing freight scanning solution, McGills viewed Belgravium as the ideal technology partner to move the solution forward. Utilising a real time network and Belgraviums “Rugged by Design” Monaco 7100 vehicle mounted terminals, the solution works in conjunction with the goods in, bulk stores and pick face replenishment operations to secure fast, reliable and accurate data capture for increased traceability.

Ian continues, “We are very excited by the potential of Belgravium’s real time solution having already secured numerous benefits from the existing solution they have in place with us. The additional capabilities will provide us with complete control and transparency of our operation which in turn will continue to drive our commitment to delivering a truly first class service and product to our customer base.”
