DIBS Distribution is implementing a high-tech solution from Paragon Software Systems to enhance customer service and reduce transport costs. The routing and scheduling optimisation system will integrate with Navman Wireless satellite vehicle tracking to provide live fleet activity information via Paragon’s Fleet Controller option.
The Middlesex-based family-owned company delivers a wide range of frozen and ambient products to fast food businesses throughout the UK. The delivery fleet comprises specialist compartmented 13 and 18 tonne trucks that provide 960 deliveries a week from Monday to Saturday. The total tonnage for DIBS’ weekly operation is about 180 tonnes, all of which needs to be delivered between 11 am and 6 pm. Some exceptional deliveries need to be made as early as 6 am and others as late as 10 pm.
“We selected Paragon’s routing and scheduling software to help bring new efficiencies to our transport and distribution operation. It will allow us to optimise our routes and delivery schedules for each week and the addition of Fleet Controller’s vehicle tracking and text messaging facilities will give us the ability to provide our customers with accurate ETAs for their deliveries. While taking active steps to reduce our transport costs we will also be improving our customer service,” says Lee Payne, Transport Manager for DIBS Distribution.
DIBS run a fixed-route operation, adding new customers to the plan on an ongoing basis as the business continues to expand. Paragon will automate the planning of the routes and allow periodic re-planning every few months to maximise efficiencies. The integration with the satellite vehicle tracking system will also allow fine tuning of the routes.
