RTITB is the a materials handling equipment accrediting body recognised by HSE, HSENI and HSA, with over 550 accredited sites across the UK and Ireland, who in turn train 5500 materials handling equipment operators per month. We are also the lead consortium member for the JAUPT approved Master Driver Consortium. The consortium includes 150 organisations delivering a comprehensive and flexible Driver CPC periodic training programme, all of which include assessments, giving  drivers and employers a clear indication of the benefits of training.

What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

Providing people with the tools to make industry safer and improving people’s lives through training.

Who inspired you most in your career?

Many people have inspired me, however the most important would be the Head teacher of my Secondary School. He never gave up on me.

If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

It would have to be a clamp attachment on a lift truck, once I get hold of something I wont let go.

What brought you to this industry?

I worked for RTITB during my college and university holidays and during busy times over a 10 year period, when I was looking for full time work in May 2006 RTITB took me on as an administrator and my career progressed from there.

If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

I wouldn’t have gone to University to study Politics. Looking back I don’t know why I made the choice and where I felt it would take me.

What’s your favourite pastime?

Reading, anything and everything!

What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?

Too many to mention, I am extremely clumsy and seem to be getting worse as I get older!

Do you have any hidden talents?

Not that I have found so far, unless you count being able to fold your tongue into 2 sections!

Who would be your favourite party guest?

Machiavelli. I would love to try and get inside his mind.

What is the greatest luxury in your life?

DVD boxsets of the American TV Series Law and Order, I own them all!

If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

I would continue to work, I would get too bored sat at home but would use the money to improve the lives of young people in care in the UK.

Who or what makes you laugh?

The Inbetweeners, Lee Evans and Simon Amstell.

Do you have any secret ambitions?

If I tell they won’t be secret anymore will they?

What’s your favourite holiday destination?

America, I have been to New York and Washington DC but I am determined to go back and see more.

What’s your favourite music album

I have two, Blur – 13 and Metallica – Master of Puppets.

What’s you favourite movies?

Annie, when I was a little girl I watched that film over and over. Miss Hannigan terrified me!

What’s your favourite book?

Out of the Dark by Linda Caine, a truly astonishing story.

Who or what do you detest the most?

People who aren’t honest, if you make a mistake admit it, don’t try and cover it up. We all make them its how you deal with mistakes that matters.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?

Be prepared to work hard and understand the importance of the industry to the UK.
