Based on its proven track record of making through the night deliveries of aftermarket parts, Norbert Dentressangle Transport Services has secured a new three year £multi-million contract with JCB, the world’s third largest construction equipment manufacturer by volume.

Headquartered in Rocester, Staffordshire, JCB produces over 300 types of machines, including diggers, excavators and tractors, and has around 18 factories throughout the world.

Norbert Dentressangle’s significant sector experience and in-depth knowledge of the automotive industry, gained from working with a number of major manufacturers, as well as its high service levels, were all key factors in winning the contract in a competitive tender process.

The transport specialist makes evening collections of stock and VOR (vehicle off-road) orders from JCB’s World Parts Centre (WPC) in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. Using its dedicated trunking fleet, Norbert Dentressangle then delivers to its network of nine depots across the UK. Orders are packed into pallet boxes and integrated into the shared-user network for through the night deliveries to guarantee dealers receive orders before they open at 7am the next day.

The operation involves distribution to 100 JCB dealerships across the UK with drivers accessing lock-up facilities using keys and security codes. To optimise empty return legs on route back to the WPC, drivers also collect warranty returns and reusable packaging left by the dealers in the overnight facilities.

“Norbert Dentressangle understands our business and, importantly, the needs of our customers as well. With the challenges that we are presented with in supporting comprehensive national distribution to our network of JCB Dealers, Norbert Dentressangle uses its extensive network very effectively to supply all of our dealerships right across the UK, from Aberdeen to Devon,” commented Chris Buckler, General Manager – Operations at JCB Service.

“The company was chosen mainly because of its proactive and supportive “can do” attitude. They were able to think outside the box and come up with some innovative ideas to solve our transport issues and deliver a reliable yet cost-effective service that other suppliers weren’t able to.”

Using the Norbert Dentressangle transportation management system miSHARP, JCB’s consignments are tracked by bar code throughout the whole process, providing real-time information including dealer balances, proof of delivery and data to measure against agreed KPIs.
To support the operation Norbert Dentressangle has heavily invested in new vehicles and trailers.
