Coop in Norway, with a turnover of over 4bn euro’s and a market share of 24% is the second largest food retailer in Norway. The retailer plans to build a distribution center covering all temperature zones in direct proximity of the capital Oslo. The formal ordering was received by the general contractor Witron Logistik + Informatik Gmbh by Coop Norge Handel AS in December. The Witron logistics experts did succeed, in the context of a design competition, due to a future oriented overall concept as well as to their extensive experience with the successful completion of extensive projects against a multiplicity of competitors. “The complete concept impressed us regarding its cost-efficiency, ergonomics, energy efficiency and flexibility“ states Halvor Nassvik, at Coop Norge Handel AS. Like many Food Retailers worldwide, Coop has put its trust in the automated Witron logistics solutions OPM, DPS, CPS and DPP.”

This logistics building has a size of about 50.000m2, and from this warehouse Coop will supply the eastern parts of Norway. The distribution centre will also cover the central warehouse function for slow moving and special items for Coop’s 850 stores in the hole of Norway. The site will hold nearly 12,500 different articles from the dry-assortment, fresh assortment (+2 degrees), as well as the frozen product assortment (- 25 degrees) and fruit and vegetable products (+7 degrees, +12 degrees).

All pallet/stacker cranes and conveyours will be built by the Witron daughter FAS – equipped with environmental friendly power saving- and synchronous propulsion technology.

The material flow in all stock areas and temperature zones is clever and interlaced with highest logistic efficiency.

Beyond that with the assigned technology we have the possibility to offer our customer an optimal and sustainable store-service for many years to come“, highlights Mr. Nassvik the competitive advantages for Coop.

Witron will supply apart from the design the IT and PLC-controls and also all mechanics. Technical service and operation of the logistics center is managed by a so-called Witron Onsite Team.
