What’s the most exciting thing about your job?
Seeing a project through from initial enquiry stage through to solution development to implementation. It is always exciting to secure a project but much more satisfying to see it through to implementation and see what a positive difference we can make to a clients business.
Who inspired you most in your career?
Alan Jones OBE former Managing Director TNT Logistics. He always impressed me with his personal but direct approach and ability to make all staff at all levels feel that they worked directly for him. He struck me as a true leader.
If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?
The floor – sometimes ignored but impossible to do without.
What brought you to this industry?
An interest in how things are made and the logic behind the manufacturing and supply chain process.
If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?
Nothing – I am a true believer that everything that happens, happens for a reason so any mistakes that may have been made in the past have lead me to this point in my life – which I am very happy with.
What’s your favourite pastime?
Walking my cocker spaniel in the countryside and eating in good restaurants (with my wife not my cocker spaniel.)
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?
Lots of embarrassing things have happened to me but there is nothing that I would be prepared to put in writing. (The most embarrassing probably isn’t printable anyway!)
Do you have any hidden talents?
I am told I sound a little like Neil Diamond when I sing and have been known to participate in a few Karaoke sessions in the past (perhaps I should have put this under the most embarrassing things)
Who would be your favourite party guest?
Cesar Milan –“the dog whisperer”, as I want to understand how he really gets dogs to do exactly what he wants or is it just the magic of television.
What is the greatest luxury in your life?
Time spent with my family and my dog. When you run a constantly growing business this time can be precious and in short supply.
If you won the Lottery, what would you do?
It depends how much I won, but I would like to buy a property in the sun to escape to now and again and a choice of any car in the world would be nice.
Who or what makes you laugh?
The comedian Jason Manford and The Simpsons.
Do you have any secret ambitions?
I am ambitious by nature – but that’s no secret – so I guess the answer is no (sorry).
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Crete.
What’s your favourite music album?
Plan B – The Defamation of Strickland Banks.
What’s your favourite movies?
True Romance – (written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Tony Scott).
What’s your favourite book?
“Monstrum” by Donald James.
Who or what do you detest the most?
Oysters – I just don’t get it – even an oyster wouldn’t find another oyster attractive let alone ‘put them in the mood’.
What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?
Definitely do it – the diverse nature of the entire logistics industry enables you to develop transferable skills to work across a range of sectors and learn so much from different industries giving you broader understanding of life.
