Warehouse automation supplier KNAPP UK Ltd is celebrating a significant order for modifications to the distribution facility of its customer, Clarks.
The shoe giant is investing in new systems at its distribution centre in Street, Somerset, that will enable the company to prepare shipping consignments to meet changing market demands. The move comes in the wake of significant growth in Clarks’ sales in Continental Europe, with the greater transport distances involved requiring delivery in carton format, rather than simply shrinkwrap, to afford greater product protection.
The existing automated handling system at Clarks’ Street facility was designed and installed by KNAPP in 2005 and has since been maintained by KNAPP’s team of resident engineers at the site.
The new handling equipment, which will meet Clarks’ throughput of 1,800 cartons per hour, will go live towards the end of this year. To optimise the goods-out process, KNAPP will integrate automatic invoice insertion, labelling and volumetric checking equipment within its solution.
Commenting on the order, Craig Rollason, Head of Sales and Marketing for KNAPP UK Ltd, said, “We’re delighted to have received this significant order, both because it is in response to growing demand for Clarks’ products and because it is testament to the mutual trust that exists between our two companies.”
