What’s the most exciting thing about your job?
Seeing people realise their potential, watching the business grow and winning.
Who inspired you most in your career?
I’m lucky to have worked for some great people – John Lang, Colin Millbanks and my favourite, and current chairman, John Brotherton.
If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?
A Palletforce super fork lift truck.
What brought you to this industry?
A chance meeting with a gentleman called Malcolm Fitter at XP – a division of TNT Express Worldwide.
If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?
Nothing.
What’s your favourite pastime?
Football and spending time with my kids.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?
Not sharing with you!
Do you have any hidden talents?
I am currently a Fanzone commentator on Skysports for Newcastle United.
Who would be your favourite party guest?
My children, Alan Shearer, Dr Who & Gandalf.
What is the greatest luxury in your life?
Time.
If you won the Lottery, what would you do?
I don’t play it.
Who or what makes you laugh?
People & Newcastle United.
Do you have any secret ambitions?
No secrets – just ambitions.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, I’m just a big kid at heart.
What’s your favourite music album?
Everything by The Jam.
What’s your favourite movie?
It was Lord of the Rings, however Inception was great.
What’s your favourite book?
I enjoy reading but I couldn’t pick just one favourite. At the moment my favourite authors are Lee Child & Clive Cussler.
Who or what do you detest the most?
People who quit without trying and dishonest people.
What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?
I would like to see more young talented people joining our industry – we need it. Logistics is dynamic, exciting and going through some major changes which means it’s never been a better time to join.
