jung-impressImpress Group, a leading global producer of metal packaging solutions, for consumer goods, has upgraded the materials handling equipment at its aerosol factory in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, with the acquisition of a fleet of 15 counterbalanced trucks and one pedestrian stacker from Jungheinrich.

The counterbalanced trucks are a mix of LPG- and electric-powered models. The LPG trucks are from Jungheinrich’s TFG range and feature hydrostatic drive – which makes them ideal for applications where a lot of ‘shuttling’ work is involved. Meanwhile, the three wheel electric models (with twin coupled rear wheels) utilise fourth generation AC technology – which means that they offer class leading performance and the lowest running costs.

Each of the new models is fitted with Jungheinrich’s ISM management system to enable a range of truck performance indicators to be monitored remotely.

The trucks replace a mixed fleet that had reached the end of its contract.

The Merthyr Tydfil site has recently been upgraded with a major investment in a new production line and the new forklift truck fleet is part of Impress’s continued commitment to this facility.

Paul Fox, plant manager at Impress’s Merthyr Tydfil factory, commented, “Our company places considerable emphasis on continuous investment to develop the business at the Merthyr Tydfil site. We believe that the acquisition of this fleet of forklift trucks from Jungheinrich, will improve efficiency and enable a safer working environment to benefit both the staff and the business.”

Impress took delivery of the trucks at a special hand-over ceremony and demonstration, at the Merthyr Tydfil site, on 25 June. Local dignitaries and senior management personnel from Impress and Jungheinrich attended.

Dai Havard MP, the Labour MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, who was present at the hand-over, commented: “Impress’s investment in the latest forklift truck technology shows the company’s ongoing commitment to build on everything it has already achieved at the Merthyr Tydfil site. The company’s success proves that manufacturing industry does have a future in this part of South Wales.”

Part of the German-owned Jungheinrich Group, – one of the world’s leading suppliers of materials handling equipment – Jungheinrich UK has its head office in Milton Keynes and a regional office in Llanelli, South Wales.
